Chipping in warranty?

Thinking about putting a stage 1 chip in my 2008 GTI, however I really don't know how this would work with the warranty? My salesman said it would most likely be fine, but my inner sense tells me that they will just blame anything and everything on it.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments?

This has been asked many, many times at vwvortex.com forums, but as far as I can tell, never convincingly argued one way or another. Personally, I believe that it would be up to VWoA to prove the software upgrade is at fault for any problems. You can even get programs which allow you to temporarily return to the factory software when you bring the car to the dealer for service.

I've read that the most common problems are with Stage 1 is a failed dv & pcv.

Lots of good 2.0T info: (for FSI, may not necessarily apply to "TSI" engines)

I haven't chipped my 2.0T Passat (yet) but only because it hasn't been in my budget.

The warranty for my Honda specifically states that the warranty is void if any electronic work is done to the vehicle unless it's done by the dealer.

This is the normal way most warranties are written. They usually don't go out of their way to prove that the modification did the damage, if you chip the vehicle, anything involved with or connected to the engine they'll probably try and deny coverage. It will be up to you to fight it and it probably won't be an easy job.

Getting greedy for more power already eh? 😉

From what I read, it varies from dealer to dealer. Hell even some dealers do it themselves. I would call up some of the dealerships and ask them straight out how the whole process works, but I'm pretty sure it is just like rdp6 described.

Also, from my experience and from others, Jeremy Moss at the fladeboe dealer in socal is supposed to be a really cool guy when it comes to modded GTIs.
