The end of an era and as a Braves fan this makes me sad. The era of free agency is here to stay and I think guys like Chipper and Jeter are going to be few and far between as the years go by. Can anyone think of some other guys who you will always associate with a team and don't expect to see them go anywhere else? I used to think Pujols would be one of those but alas...

last time i heard his name was ~15 years ago.

Jones is a .304 hitter with 454 home runs, 1,455 walks, and 1,561 RBI in 2,387 games.

You don't know shit about baseball or you've been living under a rock.

I saw this news earlier and wasn't surprised, but it's sad to see him go. He's a certain HOF on the 1st vote.

Not to mention that he did all of this in the steroid era and I doubt anyone is waiting in line to throw him in with the user crowd.

I used to call Chipper the idiot savant of baseball because he's always been unconsciously good his entire career. As a baseball fan here in NYC, I'll miss his competitive spirit and dedication the most.

1st ballot HOFer no question, he's in my top 3 of switch hitters of all time statistically:

1) Mickey Mantle
2) Chipper Jones
3) Pete Rose

His career has been nothing short of phenomenal, and even better than switch hitters Rose, Eddie Murray, and Roberto Alomar.

What a great career.

There a lot of teams that would love a .275 hitting third baseman with almost 20 HRs that he has become here at the end of his career.

One other thing to note, Chipper will finish in elite company with .300+ batting average, .400+ on base percentage, and .500+ slugging as long as he bats at least .250 in 2012.

I agree. But :), Pete Rose was better than any of them. I think Rose is top ten all time, he was a phenomenal ball player.
