Chipped Cores

I know, I'm retarded...I forgot to open the socket to put my new athlon in, and put the fan on, with a lot of force, and a piece of the core chipped off. It's maybe .3mm^2, in the bottom right corner (if looking at it installed in a case). What are the chances I killed my processor?

I actually had the same thing happen to me.. don't know how big of a chip it was.. more like a flake.. shouldn't be a problem.

I chipped my first Duron 600, and was pi$$ed! I promptly bought a copper shim and have have zero installation or heat problems. Its worth a few bucks to protect your investment!

Here

There have been several threads on the issue of copper shims. Some people have been concerned that it would raise their cpu temp. However, there are website reviews that have shown there to be no effective increase in temps.

another new record 😉 😛 :Q

sorry to hear your cpu went on u

Try it. I chipped mine in a few places just by installing it a few times. It works perfectly fine. And some of these chips are pretty big too. Hell a couple of corners are missing. Still runs like a champ. It's happily running in a system I just put together for my father. And I have full confidence in it to give to him.
