Today at a local shopping center a new Chipotle restaurant opened and they gave away free burritos for the entire day. There were people waiting in line an hour before it opened, and the first few in line, including a few of my friends, got free T-shirts and magnets. "Foil Shizzle." "Addicted." Throughout the day the line was between 30 minutes to an hour and a half long (it might be worse tonight around dinnertime). People mindlessly waited in <20° weather with pouring snow to get their food. Some kids really milked the system with triple steak, extra guac, and free drinks.

Needless to say almost everyone left on senior privileges for Chipotle from school today (including me). Luckily, we only had to wait five or ten minutes before they came out with a box of premade burritos and just handed them out.

Do all new Chipotles do this when they open?

Only in poor towns where there is a food shortage. :)

They did this here at both Chipotle's which opened recently. One opened up 3 weeks ago near where I work. I decided to walk by at lunch, figuring there would be a big line, but you never know. There were literally about 100 people in line. Thats just ridiculous. Not worth waiting an hour just to save $6 on a free burrito.

I finally went and I still like Moe's much much better.

When Moe's (similar to Chipotle, I think..) opened near my job, they did something similar. Except, they handed out 'free burrito' cards the week before to the offices/stores near them, so you had to turn the card in to get the free food.

I think there's one Chipotle about 30 minutes from home, but I've never been there.

Yes, they did it when they opened a new store near my work a few months ago. It was not worth it. Their burritos are very overrated.

I ate at Chipotle last week for the first time. Expensive for fast food but very good and very filling... I felt full for 3 days. :p

Got a bunch of free burritos when the one opened in Davis CA, and didn't have to wait in a long line for them. They sent out a bunch of free coupons in the mail (actually, I think it was paper bags that you would take in.)

I went to Chipotle yesterday for lunch. I usually eat lunch around noon, but due to a long deposition I got out around 3. I got a free T-shirt, because they were giving out free shirts to the first 300 customers after 3 p.m. woo

It's obvious to me that soon people will be camping in tents in front of new Chipotles that are under construction. How long until eBay is flooded with burritos with BINs of $12+ dollars. IT's madness.
