Chipless Xbox modding

Lifer
Software mod that allows you to run copied games, and/or install Linux and use as a full-blown media center. Kevin Rose, co-host, has info on his website.

Sorry if repost, did a search and didn't see it on first 2 pages.

Damn, I just installed my X-Ecuter 2.3b Lite+ yesterday too.

Of course I suppose doing it with hardware means I can enable/disable the mod easily, meaning I can get on XBox Live and not have my XBox banned.

Will I be able to use the Xbox media center with this mod?

edit: and once this is done is it the same thing as a modchip, excent its permanent (can't be turned off)? I never plan to use xboxlive so I'm just making sure there are no differences.

Yes.

Kinda sorta not really. The biggest difference is that you have to lock the hard drive if you swap out the original.

The major limiting factor to the software hack is if your xbox kernel version is 5530 or newer. The software bios loader doesn't work, which means that you can't run unsigned code (have to sign all the executables with the right hash key) or swap out your hard drive (original xbox bios doesn't recognize more than 8GB).
