amd has big plans for CCC. or so claims chiphell. some questionable leaked images and data suggests that the 12.1 drivers will be a 1 size fits all driver. it will work for gpu's, APU's, mobility gpu's and discrete gpu's. that sounds wild but that's why this is leaked stuff, isnt it..

Excellent if this is true. This combined with programs like Steam's AMD automatic driver check and update are what really push AMD's customer service and support over the top. So many problems can be fixed by simply updating drivers, and streamlining that process makes everything easier on everyone involved in that process. Very forward thinking, although like MrTeal alluded, I hope they keep the file size reasonable.

Since I'm not paranoid about processes running on my PC, and not worried about Valve going belly up, why shouldn't I use Steam? With it I can download all the games I've bought from it and not worry about storing physical CDs as I have my laptop and 2 desktop PCs (at 2 different locations) on which I play games.

Steam also has some nice sales occasionally which helped me buy games I would not otherwise have bought at all.
 
Lol CCC hasnt worked for me all year.

I must be the only one because nobody else complains about it.

To clarify the drivers work fine it is just the CCC interface that doesn't work.
 
The alternative to CCC uses less memory (ei. CCC = memory hog), however ATT comes with issues of its own, its old as hell software, that isnt being updated anymore. And like it I said, alot of its features wont work without you tweeking it to your setup.

CCC > ATT, for the same reason Windows > Linux.

people like haveing things simple and just working from the get go.

Do I dislike CCC takeing up like 80mb of ram space for litterly no reason?
when ATT uses next to nothing? Sure... but I like CCC more than I do Ati tray tools.

I remember trying to get ATT to work with software overclocking, and still downclocking in 2D.... man that gave me a headache.... at the same time CCC doesnt do that,...

solution?

flash GPUs bios to faster clocks 🙂 and keep useing CCC.

Registered Steam user since September 12th, 2003 here.
I refuse to use anything but Steam. I won't buy a game if it's not on Steam. It saved PC gaming, and it's also the future. I own no consoles and without it, I would've bought one long ago.
 
We have a Steam survey related thread going also, but since it's brought up in this Driver thread. Another great Steam component is it updates the games, bug fixes / performance patches etc. Those can often be as important as driver updates to the final game experience.
 
Do they not do a good enough job compiling or what? I can't figure out why the driver w/CCC would be soooooooooo huuuuuuuge.

That said, unified drivers are full of win. I think Creative Labs could have been saved had they had a good unified driver for everything from the Live to the Audigy series in a single package. They were always such a pain in the butt as far as driver support, and SB Live model XXXX wouldn't work with the same driver as SB Live XXXY, even when the chip on the board and the features were identical.

Creative Labs could have been saved if they didn't suck or were outclassed in every conceivable metric, but that's a rant for another thread.
