Awhile back I damaged my Ahtlon Thunderbird 1.2Ghz CPU somehow, and it doesn't work now. Is there some sort of place you can take the CPU to to see if someone can fix it? I know Intel and AMD have labs that can fix them... but I don't think they offer that to the consumer market. Just curious... I'd hate to see the processor go to waste.

You definitely cannot repair a chip.

The Intel/AMD labs you refer too can do "edits" to chips using Focused Ion Beam and metal deposition technologies, but they have to strip off the passivation (protective silicon oxide and/or nitride layer) to do it, which drastically shortens the expected lifetime of the processor.

It also costs a lot more to do than the processor is worth, and so is used only for R&D purposes.

Anyway for many types of damage, like electrostatic discharge, the processor can't be repaired.

Buy a new one :(
