Chip Prices Rise As Japan Quake Sparks Supply Shortage Concerns

The Japanese situation is so severe that it's going to dampen the entire world economy. Look at the price of oil today. IMHO whatever supply problems do to raise prices, decreasing demand will equalize it. I wouldn't stock up on any chip right now. I think it's too risky.

Isn't most ram made in places like Taiwan and China? You can bet either way the chip makers will use this as a excuse whether it does/doesn't affect them in a negative way.

gives chinese and korean vendors a chance to assimulate the current market even more, and outsource there fabs, which have been vamped up for high production.

So in short.. japan is screwed... china and korea will bail us out.

lol once again is moot.. the joint crucial and intel NAND fabs are all in the US, that expect high volume production.

In reality... guys... we shifted away from japan a very long time ago thanks to china.
China is trying to be independant in construction, so we dont need japan's raw materials to fab, when china already has most of the raw sources.

Its just a matter of how tight china will get to offset the shortages with japan.


Id honestly be more worried about gas prices then chip prices..
Auto industry will be hit... the computer industry... as i said its all up to china and korea.

You posted exactly what I was thinking about earlier today. China and Korea will accelerate their marketshare advances against Japan in cars and electronics. This could have a huge lastimg impact on the tech and auto industry as a whole.

It's going to be bad for the Japanese economy as they recover from this terrible disaster. But as others have said, China, South Korea and Taiwan will fill Japan's voids.

Good think I upgraded to 12GB's of ram in the last 2 weeks.

And aigomorla is right Gas prices are a bigger concern.

They are already at our canadian summer prices and we haven't even hit spring yet.
