I have a 900 athlon with a chip on the corner of the core that is about a tenth of a millimeter or so. If the chip works ok, how much will this chip affect the life of the athlon...or will it? Thanks
Most CPU's either work or they don't. Damage to a CPU die will usually show itself within the first few days of operation, especially if the processor is "stability tested" using programs like BurnIn or Prime95. Most distributed clients also make good testing software as they are very processor oriented. As far as affecting the lifespan of the CPU...who cares. Most CPU's come from the fab with lifespans of 10+ years if used within nominal voltage/temp/humidity ranges. The real world lifespan of a CPU is about 3-4 years tops. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
