I work for a computer disty which is 96 % Chinese. 9 times of 10 they are speaking Chinese, Mandarin and Cantonese, and i dont have a problem with it at all. (my CO-Worker hates it, we are the only 2 non-asian americans in the company) They are always talking loud, but i want to know , what does Nee-Ga mean. I dont think they are trying to disrespect blacks, but I hear it everyday. What does it mean. Shay-Shay, did i spell that right?

i don't think so. nee-how or nee-how-ma are the hello/how are you greetings. but those only happen at the beginning of conversations.

i really think what they're saying is derogatory. think about what the word sounds like in english.

My work is about 50% chinese, but as soon as 2 chinese people are in proximity, they switch to Chinese. It's a little irritating, but I guess for them it's easier to talk in the language they grew up with.

In mandarin, "nee-ga" is kinda like "this". "na-ga" is like "that". In cantonese, the closest I can make it out to be would be "yours"? Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong.

if they're saying 'nee ga' or 'nee gor', it sounds like 'this' or 'that' in cantonese.

Though in cantonese, it sounds like NEE-goy instead of nee-ga in madarin.

I work with a bunch of chinese people too, this language got so many variants that I can't keep up.

I live in San Gabriel, CA and it's pretty rare for me to hear English dialog in public from Asian people.
