Chinese eBay vendors and RAM

Would any of you recommend against purchasing generic-looking RAM off eBay from China?

I'm not planning on overclocking or anything (everything will be run at stock). I just need it to be stable.

Yes I'd recommend against it. Memory is a commodity item and shouldn't be much cheaper from China except for the small cost of subsidized postage, that then takes a long time to arrive, so significant enough savings to risk it is fishy.

If not buying from the usual major US merchants, I'd sooner buy used from someone with a good rep.

i would go beyond that and advise to buy Corsair and nothing else, their warranty support is legendary.

Generic, price-too-good-to-be-true chargers, RAM, and SD cards and some of the things that should never be bought off of Ebay. SD cards are nearly guaranteed to have faked storage and you just gave Commie China free money to purchase garbage.

I would say its not worth the savings ... skimp somewhere else RAM is mission-critical.

I would also suggest Corsair as a solid choice however Crucial and G.Skill are both quality too.

Crucial is permanently on my shit list after the Ballistix fiasco. Corsair's always treated me right. From entry level to "enthusiast". Never had a stick die.

If you are a developer for Memtest86 or similar program and need some bad ram to test your application, it would be a great way to do that.

What happened?

I've never had a problem with Crucial RAM myself although their SSD's have not been as reliable.

I've actually used more G.Skill then any other brand of RAM and have only had one failure. I used to swear by Mushkin but its been awhile.

Nothing dramatic, just a bunch of shit ram, and an rma would get you more shit ram in return. Aside from rare cases, companies get one chance to sell me stuff. If that doesn't work out, they won't be considered again. Crucial, LG, and GM are blacklisted. Husqvarna's on shaky ground. I'm especially peeved at Crucial cause I used some in a machine I built for someone else, it died soon after mine did, and I had to make a warranty repair. I built that machine to be best in class and relied on Crucial's reputation. *The ram dying affected my reputation, and ate into my bottom line.

*Not like I'm anybody, and I'm sure the person didn't care cause I fixed it, but still... If I say I'm giving you the best, it should be the best, and dying isn't the best.
