"I came to the astonishing conclusion that a huge Chinese fleet of 800 vessels had sailed from China in March 1421 and they'd circumnavigated the world and they had created settlements in North and South America, in Australia, New Zealand, across the Pacific and in the Indian Ocean,"

Maybe China should have said something about this over 500 years ago. We aren't going to go renaming Columbus Day to Chinese Day anytime soon. :D

Several cultures had discovered the Americas before Columbus. Columbus was, however, the only one who could convince his culture that it was worth coming back.

Let me just point out one thing...

If there's a book on a topic it doesn't mean it's correct. It just means that they think enough people will buy it to make a bit of money.

Well duh! :p

But supposedly (according to the radio interview) there is a lot of acheological evidence to support this theory.

The point about Columbus and America is that his "discovery" is what led to the current status of the America's being largely European in character.

If the Chinese, and it's a big if IMHO, did what this article says, it's largely irrelevant since it doesn't seem to have much impact on World History the way that Columbus' voyage did.
