Not sure if ???? is correct grammar - I am a nub student as you can see.

I was wondering if any Chinese speakers know of a program that can run in the bg and allow you to highlight Chinese (Traditional pref, simplified would be fine too) characters and give you the pin-yin and hopefully english definition. I think this would be a great program to help learn characters in every day usage on the computer - but I have yet to find it.

It could also be a lifesaver when talking to my ????.

Thanks (or ??) for anyone that can help!! :)

???? is a bit off. ?? deal with the written aspect most of the time, ????? is a better form for "chinese Mandarin speaker",

but from what you're describing, you are probably asking for someone who knows the written form and the official dialect (Mandarin).

I do not know of any program that does what you describe, I'll ask some of my relatives from taiwan.

Actually I just found one thanks to a ??. For any who are interested, it looks pretty good.

Check out Lingoes @ http://www.lingoes.net/

For the most part I can tell - its free - you just download dictionaries into it. Its Windows only though.
