President-for-life Hu is visiting the U.S. right now and by hosting him we are giving Hu legitamatcy. We shouldn't even be doing business with China until they succumb to the will of the Chinese people for Western-style liberal democracy.

That isn't realistic.

There's a billion and a half Chinese, if they wanted it bad enough they'd have it.

We should not be doing business with China. Many do not view China as opposition. If China had the opportunity to crush us they would. I wish someone behind closed doors would tell these Chinese diplomats to quit bad talking the U.S. (monetary talk) in the media. If they do not quit business relations would be damaged. The problem is no one in leadership has the balls to do so. In the past this would have been done. Probably need someone like Eisenhower to do so though. The current political scheme is crap.

How would you all feel about us paying back all the debt we owe to China and write a law that we can no longer borrow from them?

I personally despise being on their leash.

If you don't think we should be doing business with China, you'd better throw out everything you have that's made in China and never again buy stuff made in China. If you're unwilling to do that, you're a hypocrite.

Not sure that they want a western style liberal democracy. You have to remember, that with the exception of those that are educated abroad and those that know how to get around The Great Firewall, that the majority of the population lives in ignorance and poverty (through no fault of their own) far worse than anything we can imagine here and are fed propaganda in the form of state media and censored history.

My girlfriend's roommate had no idea what happened at Tienanmen Square and other Communist atrocities committed against her own people until she came here for college and had access to uncensored history media. She is even in the upper-middle-class of Chinese society (her father is a higher up at a sizable corporation there), but still had all these minor "details" hidden from her throughout her upbringing.

Not as bad as North Korea, by any means, but still Big Brother city.

Now, if all of them had uncensored internet access, then things would be quite different and they would be enlightened as to how things really are and demand reforms, but that is not the case.

I think it is a bit more complex than this. It is not even clear exactly who is in charge in China at the moment given that the Peoples Army seemingly staged a test of military technology while the Secretary of Defense was visitng a week ago that the civilian leadership was totally unaware of.

Who the US going to trade with beside China & India?

The Canadian market is pretty much saturated by the US at 80% of all Canadian foreign trade. While China have much room to grow.

US-Canada 2009 trade in billions:
Exports - 204.658
Imports - 226.248

US-China 2009 trade in billions:
Exports - 69.497
Imports - 296.374

U.S Census Bureau

As for me buying Chinese-made goods I have no choice but to swallow and accept or I wouldn't have anything. China has become the world's manufacturer whether we like it or not.

OP forfeits any point with his first sentence. Hu isn't a dictator, and certainly isn't one for life. His party elected him twice and he's required to leave office in 2013.

While I'm a big critic of China for their petulant behavior and horrible human rights record, as the emerging power of the East and our most important trade partner, I believe their leader is entitled to a little diplomatic pomp and circumstance. Chinese are obsessed with image, let them finally feel like they're sitting at the grown ups dinner table and maybe they'll end up being a little more helpful next time we have to sit down with their crazy neighbor.

I try to do this and do look at the country of origin. But at times you must buy some cheap chinese junk because alternatives are nil in the local stores,.

Obama is such a douche.
First he preempts the answer from the president and then as the question was being translated, he cuts the president of china off.

See, the US is a nation that won't mind forgetting invading and killing hundreds of thousands of people while making a nation worse, they like taking it right up the arse too from their superiors who basicallly own their debt.

The land of the govvy whipped retards... I suppose we'll await your downfall before buying you from China to do some labor for us...

Your friend in hell GB.

I suppose you'll be buying us on credit, given that the UK has the highest debt\gdp ratio in the world?

Really? Considering how deep the tounge of Bush got stuck into the arse of Hu you'd think that Obama was actually distancing himself.

One thing every one should remember is that China is a shithole, it's a HORRENDOUS dictatorship that readily executes people on a daily basis for diagreeing with the stated agenda, yes EVERY FUCKING DAY...

For some reason that is ok when China does it but not with other nations... right?

The US has become the beacon of the most pathetic people on earth.
