I don't understand "Parties." Do Chinese people get in huge circles at parties?

Some are dead on, some I don't get at all, like the Germans like black women, and the Chinese like white women? I'm talking about the 'perception of beauty' one. I don't get that one, unless that is what it was supposed to be.

I'm not sure either. I'm thinking Germans like tans and Chinese prefer untan?

I believe it's saying that currently Western cultures consider darker (tanned) skin to be more beautiful, while the Chinese values whiter skin tones more. If so then that's dead on.

I personally don't get the "new things" one. Is it saying the Chinese are more receptive of new things than Germans? Isn't it the opposite? Or is it saying that the Chinese like to possess new things?!

Germans are old fashioned, while Chinese pick up new things such high tech gadgets?

I think it's supposed to be sitting around a large table.

Get-togethers in China involve getting a private room at a restaurant and sitting at a large circular table with a rotating surface stacked with food. Even strangers will dine together among the many dishes. There is also alot of drinking and smoking.

Heh, I thought it meant that Chinese people go to parties and then hang back around the walls of the room trying not to make eye contact with anybody.

I took the woman one to mean Chinese look at the whole woman and avoid looking at the dark sections while Germans concentrate on the white areas. About the sexualizing of what is considered beauty. Think the Bavarian beer maid outfit for example.

The new one I thought was to suggest Chinese get a new thing and use it right away while Germans get a new thing just to have it. Something to do with having things for status? Guess on that one.

I'm Chinese and I think it's referring to the Chinese thinking of white skin as beautiful. The whiter the better. I personally prefer tanned any day. White skin *shudders* It's my definition of sickly, frail, and inactive.

I just had a vision of hundreds of mute albino women silently rebuking fuzzybabybunny.

I am assuming it is referring to the notion that in some East-Asian countries, the boss is seen as a demi-god, unlike in the US where the manager/boss appears (or at least tries, lol) to be "one of the workers," albeit the one in charge. The amount of deference/respect shown to bosses in that part of the world tends to be significantly higher than in Western countries. Of course when there are company snafus (lead in toys anyone?), the boss also takes all the fall and quite often ends up falling on the sword...quite literally.
