The boy got too close. Crocodiles won't attack unless you get within like 5-10 feet of it and provoke it. They don't run up to you 50 feet away and then eat you.

Not only that, but how did else do people expect a crocodile to react? That crocodile went crocodile. That's what crocodiles do!
