China will take small steps to test Americas resolve but they will be careful to not push things too far ... for now.

But, they will build out a power projection infrastructure so that when they do feel in a position to be more muscular they will have the bases and facilities to make that a done deal.

Sorry but all you (Americans) backed down when you sent your jobs, engineering know how, and set up your manufacturing plants in China in pursuit of the only thing that matters to you, profit at the expense of everything else, including the very country you claim to support while waving your made in china us flags,

While you all chase your latest gadgets, worry more about kim kardashian, gay marriage, celebrities, ball players, than your trillion dollar wars and your politicians that continually sell you and your rights out to the corporations while getting you all riled up on wedge issues,

The Chinese are building themselves up by taking advantage of your greatest weakness, your very own unquenchable greed that you are addicted to like a crack head,

and when your greed consumes you to the point were you pass out like a drunken sailor, that is when China along with the Russians will do you till you bleed out of your mouth.

I tend to agree more or less, but it wasn't my decision.

This why the middle class in the US is basically very pissed off.

Given that these things are essentially just mounds of sand, I wonder if it would be possible to sneak in some special forces divers with some kind of explosive to destabilize the whole works, make it look like bad design.

LOL, all we would have to do to counter a Chinese military threat is to threaten to stop interest payments on the trillions of $$ we owe them.

I'd often thought of that one also.

Not like South America hasn't done the same and just seized US assets even.

We're fueling that shit, just like the US has UAE in the past for decades.

And the Chinese aren't greedy? lol, that's a new one. The Chinese are very greedy.

The people at the top only care about themselves and no one else.

Au contraire mon ami, the people at the top, no matter where we are in the world, do care for those below their status because for no other reason those are the folks the people at the top exploit and get rich off of. ;)

It's OK, three generations from now they will be pissed at how much we overspent but that's gonna be THEIR problem!, ya 'merica!
