it's obvious, the communist government is fighting a slowly-losing battle. Capitalistic economy cannot coexist with Communist government.

true. whats ironic is that hu jintao and probably all of his advisors are not even truly communist anymore. look at all their capitalist ideals. still a long way to go, but glad to see the chinese progress.

ummm.. it is coexisting right now. The news of protecting private property doesn't have anything to do with commies losing their grip on government control, rather bringing a whole new meaning of communism.

They're not fighting a losing battle because they're not fighting the battle. It's the Communist that are the primary proponents of capitalism in China. Yes, I know this is a contradiction of terms but that is only because people still label China and it's government "communist". Ever since Deng Xiaoping, China has been abandoning communism and socialism and become a sort of authoritarian, corrupt capitalist state.

China will very soon not be Communist, rather a capitalist dictatorship/oligarchy.

China is communist in name only. Everything that was communist about it is either dead or dying, the higher levels of goverment are full of young technocrats who are embrassing capitalism and have economic growth as their primary goal.

Anyway, right now they are rapidly become an authoritarian state, akin to South Korea or Taiwan in the 70s and 80s. Once that system is firmly in place, they will gradually become democratic. Hell, even today's leaders don't deny that democracy will come to china eventually, they just want it to come gradually.

Its interesting to note that the goverment was right in not giving in to the tianamen protests, its just they should not have killed all those students. Their gradual move towards democracy and capitalism has been much better than Russia's where everything happened at once.
