China, Taiwan Conflict

The USA has struck deals with two very important allies in the region, Japan and Australia. Japan is beefing up their naval fleet as a result. Australia is a staunch supporter of the USA as well.

Taiwan has always been a sticking point. The USA would prefer not to have to defend Taiwan but will if push comes to shove. The question should be, does China want to risk invading Taiwan. They're very tied into the US and and other economies.

yes since we owe China 100 billion dollars in trade deficit.

no since we have a gazillion dollars in trade with China.

dont worry about deathkoba....he was caught trolling another thread.

the reason US stands on the side is because we have that tiny hope that someday China will become democratic and capitalistic like us, and then we would gladly support a re-unification if both parties wanted so. But, knowing China wants to implement their communist policies on Taiwan, we're kind of against that idea.

The situation is alot stickier now that we depend on each other so heavily economically. I think honestly neither side wants to see a war.

if the euros had some balls and principals they would have tied chinas exclusion from the kyoto protocols to it never threatening taiwan again. seriously..unfree countries should not be able to get away with threatening democracies... its just wrong.

WRONG FORUM.

The US bends over for China.

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

i would be more worried about Korea or India/beloved patriot or some middleEast/Israel thing for some reason.

Yea, I know what happend, but that is not my question... Will the US support Taiwan if this breaks out?

Easy answer. They won't formally support taiwan, like send troops and declare war on China. But what they'll do is they'll just sit back and say they support china, and kiss their ass, while sellling Taiwan lots of high tech military weapons. So they are really supporting taiwan, but it looks like they're on China's side. China has the US whipped economically. Money is power.

it's not inevitable. as long as taiwan doesn't do something stupid to provoke china, they aren't gonna attack.

you gotta be a friiking idiot to think that way.

how much trading are we talking about between US and china? what happen if we don't have the cheap goods from china? US whole economy will collapse.

I hope you aren't directing that at me.....😀

Seriously though, we can't afford a world war. WWI, II, korea,'NAM...hell, even the gulf and Iraqi Wars didn;t involve usable Nukes....

I always find it amusing that people go off the deep end when countries like China or North Korea issue threatening statements. Use dictionary.com and look up "rhetoric".

Ok, so in conclusion, The US will NOT directly support Taiwan?
They are.
And we will. No chance we'll let China invade, and they can't do it anyway. China's "navy" is a joke.
No chance they can get a significant force to Taiwan with the US blocking the way.

I don't think China would risk a war over Taiwan there would be to many economic and political ramifacations. If they invaded even if we didn't back Tawain with troops we would impose economic sanctions and China would lose it's biggest market for all the cheap crap it sells. Plus most nations would most likely support the sanctions except maybe France and Iran. It's a no win situation for either party.

I for one support Taiwan, but then again I'm one of the few that know the history. If you ask 90% of your Mainlanders in China they would support the One China initiative simply because big brother does not let them know the whole picture.

The threat of what the US will do is the only thing that is holding China back. The only way they could take the island is pretty much destroying it otherwise.

Nothing's going to happen. The US is China's #1 customer, and if China were to attack Taiwan, they'd lose most of their income.

MIKE

You know, forcing all of the news into P&N is turning ATOT into a trash hole. All I ever see now in here is "do you eat food?" and "is my poop suppose to look like that". Or someone telling everyone what damn music they happen to be listening to.

BREAT APART P&N. Change it to Politics & Religion or something, and give us back our NEWS! That's why I even stayed here, because I was learning something every day!

Just like our dependencies on oil, we should not depend on China as the solo source of "Cheap Goods" and entrap ourselves to make deals that is not in our national interest.

Bit like investment, dont put your eggs in one basket.

Our Trade policies should reflect such concern and help out less hostile countries such as india, Southeast Asian countries and South America.

I was in Taiwan as the SARS swept from Taipei to Kaohsiung. I watched how the Taiwanese people went into a state of chaos and people who were asked to quarantine themselves in the one hotspot (a hospital) were jumping from windows and running car barricades to escape.

I read how a nurse took the train to Kaohsiung to see her boyfriend and ended up infecting his entire barracks and probably many others as she traveled. I read how a doctor had gotten out and continued to run his private practice for a week while while infecting his own patients.

With this kind of "teamwork" among the Taiwanese, I'm sure it would be easy for China to spread chaos just by lobbing a few weapons across the Strait. Forget the Chinese Navy. Why risk the troops? Just put a few missles into the island and let the Taiwanese people do the rest to themselves.

I don't think the US would come to Taiwan's defense. There's too much money to be lost in making an enemy of China. Where would we buy our stuff from??!

The US does lease F16s and other weapons systems to the Taiwanese. We also sell them obsolete weapons "of defense"... all while maintaining the One China policy.

I think China could take over Taiwan in less than a week. I don't think they will, though. I sure hope they don't.

Didn't we talk about this last month.... and the month before that.... and the month before that?
