I wonder if it collects more or less information than the current OSes.....

The current OS's collect data? Last time I checked Android didn't collect anything. Google services did, not the OS.

Not sure what point the OP is trying to make. HTC is like any other company, trying to survive and thrive. I bet the OP would've had no problem if Blackberry had gone into a partnership with China Mobile had one of their co-founders gotten their way, but, somehow, HTC is lambasted for doing this:rolleyes:

What lambasting?

Damn that Edward Snowden, it wasn't long ago we could mock a communist government sponsored OS probably built to spy on it's citizens. But we can't really toss that stone anymore. :p

If this ensures HTC's survival, I'm all for it as long as they don't embed parts of COS stuff into their Sense for WW release.

Lambasting is usually harsh. Those seem pretty mellow words for something called "China OS". :p

Calling this move "creepy. bizarre, sad" is pretty harsh to me. Personally, I find nothing wrong with it. HTC is a Chinese company, once removed, after all.

I see no problem with HTC putting a Chinese OS on their phones sold in China. HTC isn't really the story here. It's the China OS.

I find the need for communist governments to control and run everything in their countries to be creepy, bizarre, and sad. And I think that's sugar coating it. :)

Western governments seem happy to spy on everything we do, at least with a foreign OS you've got the protection in that it's not YOUR government trying to f**k you.

Didn't say western governments aren't creepy, bizarre, and sad. They just at least try to hide it. :)

I'd be creeped out equally by an American OS built by the US government too.

The issue here is not China OS, it's HTC, at least according to the OP. He's trying to make HTC out to be weird for doing this. IMHO, if China wants to contract HTC out to make such an OS, as a company, why wouldn't they?

The dude wrote a one sentence, eight word post.

I guess s44 is like Nostradamus. We can spend centuries divining the greater meaning of his words.

IMHO, those were pretty harsh words for a company that's already down. The OP is trying to lambast them for going into bed with China, which is stupid considering the importance of mobile OSes. If China wants to create their own homegrown OS, I say let them. If HTC wants some of that contractor money, I can't blame them. 8 or 10 years ago when the French government wanted to create a (European) competitor to Google, we all laughed at the idea but no one laughed at the companies partaking in in it. This is no different.
