China is cracking down HARD on Islam

Linky link, although the news is plastered all over the internet. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...yghur-xinjiang-confiscate-islam-a7973191.html
Essentially, they have decided that the Quran is "hate material" and therefore banned. All copies of the book must be handed in voluntarily or face legal action. Reports also indicate that other religious symbols also associated with Islam have also been declared illegal.
The bad doesn't affect the religion itself, but by exploiting the "this text contains hate speech" loophole China might have found a way to practically ban Islam.

At this time, it seems as if this is limited to the northwestern region of Xinjiang, and there is no indication that it would be extended to all mainland china.

Unless they're also banning jewish and christian books, it doesn't appear to be about Islam (or at least not about the literature). Why ban the koran and not the source material?

No, the fact that they're not banning Jewish and Christian books clearly makes this an attack on Islam. The Bible is most definitely hate material and is every bit as loathsome as the Quran is, so this is a legal justification to try to ban Islam without coming right out and saying they're trying to ban Islam. If it was truly about "hate material" the ban would encompass many more books.

We received a notification saying that every single ethnic Uyghur must hand in any Islam-related items from their own home, including Qurans, prayers and anything else bearing the symbols of religion," Dilxat Raxit, of the exile World Uyghur Congress, told Radio Free Asia (RFA), which is operated by the US government.

Didn't read it all but it looks like it's targeted. It's indisputable that the koran was plagiarized. So ban the copy but not the originals? Seems clearly targeted at specific ethnic minorities, who just happen to be muslim.

How have they managed to overlook the bible?
I have no sympathy for the Bible either, but from reading at least the old testament and, well, the bits where god tells people what to do, there isn't any direct phrasing of "you go kill this specific group here". I think later stuff, like revelations, which i could never be bothered to read, does start saying "kill people who do this and that, like gays, or those who work on sunday .. ". So, while the bible is more like a horror story, the quran is more like main kampf; it's actually one guy saying specifically "you need to go kill these people" over and over again. Frankly, not the best religious text.
Also, if anything, the bible probably attacks some now-deceased arabic subtribe, like the samaritans, which i'm sure would be a shock if any of them were still in existance, but the quran attacks christians and jews, both of which have extensive presence and resources .. bad idea.

Anyway, going back to my first statement, i really don't mind if they ban bibles too - i can't wait for the moment when being religious is considered a mental illness.

It's pretty much stated in the link up above that it's targetted at minorities within China, specifically the Uyghur. However, having said that, one can state that banning the Koran is as much an attack on Islam as banning the Bible would be an attack on Christianity, despite the fact both are not source material. If anything, it's more banning the symbol/convergence of the religion, I guess. Kind of a defacto ban of the reglion.

I can't wait for people willing to look beyond their own miserable existence and understand there is something greater. I call it a religion. Save your hate for somebody else.

2 years old, but maybe you missed this gem: http://www.thenewsnerd.com/health/apa-to-classify-belief-in-god-as-a-mental-illness/
Dr. Lillian Andrews, professor of psychology, stated, “Every year thousands of people die after refusing life-saving treatment on religious grounds

i genuinely do not understand what this means. are you trying to say i'm hateful because religion is based on lies?
also, 404: proof of something greater not found.

i don't understand why, when someone says "piledriver was awesome because it could hit 9Ghz on air" you call bullshit, but when i say "the world was created in 7 days by a mystical creature" then it's ok to say that's true.

you either believe bullshit or you don't, you can't be selective about it.

How sad to be limited to your 5 senses. You are blind with no reference. I'll save my pity if you save your disdain.

^^ are you sure you want to be on a technology forum? you know, stuff made following the scientific method.

Damn right!! Dragons and pixies and Atlantis and Bigfoot and Darth Vader and the cow jumping over the moon are all real as long as you ignore your senses and turn off your brain.

The Bible is kind of partially banned in China already.

The Gideons International have a list of countries where they are not allowed to operate:

Afghanistan, Algeria, China (People's Republic), Comoros, Djibouti, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Maldives, Mauritania, Morocco, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

A real test on whether we can peacefully come together in the West, under our freedom of expression. Or whether China's crackdown is the real method of maintaining order in a society. Is China just a scared "little" country, or is their censorship method an effective means to an end? We should study the subject and understand what it is they are trying to accomplish, and how they are acting towards that goal.

Through that understanding we can learn more about them and, in turn, ourselves.

If "Love your neighbor as yourself", and "Turn the other cheek" is somehow your definition of "Hate Speech".

Or those anti-gov't lines, like "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and give to God what is God's."

Ahhh, spoken like a person who has never read the bible, which describes most of the people who claim to believe in it.

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death.

“If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.”

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.

All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense

If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death.

A priest’s daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death.

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.

YAWN

Want me to continue or would you like to actually read the book of atrocities yourself and perhaps learn enough to stop cluelessly defending it?

yeah but, in what context? who is it that says this stuff?

see, in the bible there's many a high priest and holy man that dictates what should be done, but they are ancillary to the story. the only commandments that god gives are the basic 10 and a few weird other examples. if Abenuthiel The Eldery of Assadonia says you should kill gays, well, that's his opinion.
the quran has mohammed, which is the jesus equivalent, specifically dictate "this is how you kill infidels". that's not the same thing to defend. if i write a book that says "and then Emma said, let's kill the jews" it's not the same as if i write a book where i say "you must kill all the jews".

China cracks down on all religions dude. They are a communist country.

Google Falun Gong for example.

Another thing the central committee does is allow the religion to operate but under their control. Communism does not incorporate god.

Bunch of commie heathens that they are.
