Great pictures.

My mother once in a while shows me pictures of her childhood in Belarussian Soviet Socialist Republic. All of her pictures are black and white until 1992.

Which has more influence,

China deciding it wants to be a world power - which it already has been for the past 40 years.

Companies wanting to exploit cheap labor in china?

With the rabid growth of china, and the rapid decline of the USA, I look for the dollar to be replaced as the world recognized economy.

The only thing left for china to do, is to build up its military strength. When china starts floating air craft carriers off the coast of California and Washington DC, I look for things to change. Who knows, we might ever enter into a new cold war with China.

A new cold war really is only possible if China becomes much more self sufficient. The two countries are still connected at the umbilical right now. Certainly the US is on the decline and China is on the rise but they still very much need one another for things to continue the way they are. Which isn't to say that China isn't looking to break the connection, they certainly are. But this has as much to do with smart business practices as anything. The US is looking like less and less like a safe harbour and more and more like a huge and impressive but still leaky ship. China is rapidly diversifying it's ties to other countries around the world to gain their own pipelines for raw materials and tap new markets. Once they become diversified enough I COULD see should a cold war.

Still though I don't see this so much as a malevolent force like many do. The US has been one hell of a malevolent force on the world stage over the years. The US has certainly secured channels for raw materials and new markets with less than ethical means. The fact is the tables are now turned and some of these same tactics are being used against the US and the rest of the westernised world and we just don't like it when we are on the receiving end. I'm not saying China is a nice democracy BTW. If there HAS to be a world power I suppose I would rather it be the US, I'm just saying we have to look at this with a level head.

China has been a monstrous government towards it's own people yes. But the US has done more than it's own share of unethical dealings and let's not even pretend that it follows "the rules" a lot of the time when it comes to their own interests.

Like the "Charlie's Willson's" war for example...
Funny because this Texsas redneck helped to create the Taliban to fight Russians in Pak during the 80s

One of the big differences I see between russia of the 1970s and 1980s, and modern day china, russia lacked the technology to keep up with the US. With our open market society, we were developing technology faster then russia. It was just impossible for the USSR to keep up.

Fast forward from the 1980s to the 2000s; we develop the technology, then hand that technology over to china for mass production. It will not be long and china will start developing their own products.

If things keep progressing at their current pace, the US will be a shadow of its former self, and china will be the new world power.

What happened to russia in the 1980s, I wonder if that same thing could happen the the US in the coming years. Not that the US would break apart, but that our government could get to the point where nothing can get done.

It appears to me that the US government is more interested in bailing out the banks and wall street, then giving money to needy kids for college grants. We are going to sacrifice our future for instant gratification. As long as that bank ceo or wall street firm stays in business, then everything is ok. We would rather save some bank, then invest in future engineers and scientist.

While the political parties in the US are bickering back and forth, china builds some of the largest construction projects in the history of mankind. As the GDP of the US stagnates, the GDP of china has gone vertical.
