I just saw this on the chinese news channel here in LA. They reported that China has their troops set up to plan for an attack if Taiwan does not agree to the one China policy. They were talking about the tactics China used to threaten Taiwan. China plans to use an ICBM to take out the single power source in Taiwan, giving the entire island a blackout. Or they plan to attack the central powerline hub that will also take out all the power in Taiwan. Taiwan said they will counter attack with ICBM attacks to Shanghai.

US fears the economic relations with China, and plans to stay out of this.
I fear for Taiwan.

Things are looking good for China. It's getting more powerful and the US is becoming weaker by squandering its forces and losing its allies. A good strategy might be to try to escalate things when the US is engaged in one of its optional wars, like Iraq. Still there, China doesn't have enough of a nuclear deterrent right now... but things are changing.

What is the difference between Chencya (spl) and Russia? If China attacks Taiwan won't it be the same as that?

I pray that the Chinese Politicians and Soldiers who support these actions die the most horrible deaths ever imagineable.
I pray that the children and family members of any Chinese Politician who supports murdering innocent Taiwanese people are murdered also.

This is disgusting

Single power source in Taiwan? I find that hard to believe this news channel...from my memory Taiwan has 3 nuclear reactors so unless they want a dead island i don't think they'll blow those up.

Chechnya is a very very small scale operation compared to Iraq... :(

Whatever happened to understanding and reconciliation?

What are you talking about???

HE set the fvcking precedent of PREEMPTIVE ATTACKS!

REFUTE THAT!
Ha ha. So every time anyone attacks anyone over the next 10,000 years, it'll be Bush's fault :)

Is there any time we can make attacks in the past retroactively Bush's fault too? There's gotta be some way to blame the Battle of Marathon on Bush. I'm sick of the Persians taking the blame for it :)

Also ICBMs are InterContinental Ballistic Missiles. I don't think they'd launch that to attack an island a hundred miles away. They do have 300 medium range missiles though. But you can thank the Clinton and Bush administration for doing nothing about that.

Is there a way I can only thank the Bush administration for it?

for those saying:
Ha ha. So every time anyone attacks anyone over the next 10,000 years, it'll be Bush's fault :)

on the contrary an attack on Taiwan by China would be directly this administrations fault for 3 reasons:
1) Colin Powell explicitly said Taiwan has no right to exist independant of China. (most important because the neocons in China are spinning it as a "go ahead" signal from our own administration.

2) If the US tries to tell China they can't attack because they haven't been attacked first, China can simply point the finger back at us and not say a word.

3) Our military is stretched thin and would not be able to defend Taiwan. Even if we could, because of reason 1, we cannot attack China for attacking Taiwan, because then we will be going back on our word of One China Policy. (their neocons will be saying "HEY US, you told us you support 1 china policy, and now you teh oh noes!! which one is it you flip-flopper!!"

WTH difference does it make that US has troops in Iraq? To defend Taiwan US would need to depoly the Navy and air force. Last time I check Iraq had niether so our navy and air force isn't doing much over there other then bombing people. We could easly use ground based artlirary for that. In reality the US doesn't really care about defending Taiwan.

Probably more sabre rattling.

Mainland China does not have the Naval strength to support an amphibious landing safely. Iraq has not affected out Naval Forces.
Given the quality of Mainland Chinese pilots, the Taiwan AF and US pilots should have a fairly eay time of controlling the skies.

What mainland China has available to them is manpower and missles.
Missles can get across the straite easily, manpower is a lot more difficult.
