What's sad is, I'm American and kind of agree with them :(

BEIJING –With days to go before the United States debt default deadline, Beijing aired its frustrations with the shutdown Sunday, saying it was time to consider a “de-Americanized” world order.

With $1.28 trillion in U.S. Treasuries, China is easily the biggest foreign holder of American debt.

China has also funneled billions of dollars into private American investments – to the tune of an estimated $54 billion in 2012 alone.

“As U.S. politicians of both political parties are still shuffling back and forth between the White House and the Capitol Hill without striking a viable deal to bring normality to the body politic they brag about, it is perhaps a good time for the befuddled world to start considering building a de-Americanized world,” according to a stinging op-ed article by state news agency, Xinhua.
The article, published Sunday, conveyed Beijing’s frustration with the spending and debt impasse that has paralyzed Washington for more than two weeks.

"Days when the destinies of others are in the hands of a hypocritical nation have to be terminated, and a new world order should be put in place, according to which all nations, big or small, poor or rich, can have their key interests respected and protected on an equal footing,” the piece added.
Should Congress not come to an agreement by Thursday’s deadline on a new raised debt ceiling – the upper limit set by Congress on the amount of money the Federal government may borrow – China’s potential losses stand to be devastating.

Prior to Sunday’s commentary article, Chinese officials had been more measured in their analysis of the U.S. budget impasse. Last week, Vice-Finance Minister Zhu Guangyao noted only that “we have to see that the clock is ticking.”

To many in China, the restraint on the part of China’s ruling Communist Party over its second-largest trade partner’s government problems was perhaps based in the belief that neither party, Democrat or Republican, would allow the U.S. to not honor its financial obligations.

“If we are really rational, I cannot imagine why someone would dare to bear this kind of responsibility because any real default will have a huge impact not only on the U.S. and China, but on the global economy,” said Professor Zhao Longkai, a dean at the Guanghua School of Management at Beijing University. “It’s hard for us to imagine anyone can be that crazy to push the limit to that level.”

Zhao said the patience China had shown until recently was rooted not only in Beijing’s confidence in America’s ability to deal with the budgetary crisis, but also its own burgeoning self-confidence.

“For average Chinese people [the budget crisis] is a show there and we’ve seen it before… we also know that it's not only the United States that we are relying on, we have a lot of other investments,” Zhao said.

The Xinhua commentary may raise eyebrows in Washington, but Beijing’s frustration underscores a key point: Despite a desire to diversify its holdings, the Chinese government continues to buy U.S. Treasury bonds out of political and economic necessity.

As long as China’s domestic growth and stability are boosted by American debt, the deep ties between the two countries will likely endure.

Are we stopping them from doing that somehow? I know it's not a popular idea, but I'd rather we got a little more insular anyway. Globalization doesn't seem to have been all that kind to us.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: We're so fucked up over here we need to get our heads out of global asses and work on fixing ourselves up before we go trying to be a "world superpower" again.

It's hard to argue with that. The US government seems like a complete joke right now.

100% agree

I always laughed at the isolationist people but...you know...if we can't pay our own bills, why are we paying other countries'? Maybe its time to cut foreign spending for a few years until we can get our books balanced.

We need to implement a rather simple system:

* If the budget can't be passed, and the government is shut down, fire all of Congress. Implement an immediate vote; those who were in Congress that caused the government to shut down are ineligible to run again.

Make is so none of them are eligible to run again and we're in agreement. One bad apple spoils the bunch.

Good luck finding anyone who can determine that with any certainty.

Republicans: "It was the democrats because they pushed through this crappy Affordable Care Act than no one wants"!

Democrats: "It was the Republicans for shoehorning stuff into the budget to kill this Affordable Care Act that everyone wants"!

It is inevitable since so much of america has been sold on this idea of giving away all our wealth to the mega rich and offshoring the rest because it is so cool to obey the propaganda of the think tanks. Hey, at least all that money spent dumbing down the american public wasnt wasted.

Think how wonderful it will be when these same people tell your health care practitioner what he or she can do when you need one. What a glorious day that will be.

Anyway, we're stuck with the system we have and it would take a Constitutional amendment to change things. You and I aren't powerful enough to make that happen.

You agree with the country that is only a global economic power because it has manipulated its currency, bailed out its banks, stimulated its economy, and built ghost cities more than any other country on the planet????

Do you just listen to propaganda because you don't bother actually learning the story behind the BS?

Just take a look at this chart and let me know whether you think they should shut their fucking pie hole.

It's hard to argue that Chinese criticism of America isn't valid. After all, our central government is literally a joke and a punchline, a completely ineffective and invalid ideological cesspool where even the simplest things take weeks of wrangling and bickering to accomplish.

On the other hand, the idea of a country as barbaric and backwards as China calling for reform is laughable too. A country where lawyers and activists are imprisoned and tortured, pollution is rampant, free speech is censored, animals are driven to extinction by exotic Libertine tastes, babies are killed by toxic milk, corruption is widespread and trenchant - how does this sort of place have the moral standing to offer the world guidance?

I guess the only silver lining to the whole debt ceiling fiasco is that it would have a "devastating" impact on the chicoms. Unfortunately, it would also have a big impact on us, the democrats better get in gear on resolving the problem.

That is pretty rich.

Because when we all think of respecting smaller poorer countries interests China jumps right to mind right?

Exactly. What drives me nuts is how many people buy into the whole "get rid of entitlement" crap, and only target that at the poor and disabled. The ones getting the biggest payoffs in entitlements are the damn corporations! The are the biggest drain on Government funds and they don't even re-invest back into the very country who gave them all this entitlement money. Nope, they offshore jobs and services to other countries and bleed America dry.

We are following the path of the Romans I fear. Division, corruption and eventually a crumbling infrastructure.

We are no longer the United States, we are the Divided States.

We are China's bitch. Everyone saw what they were doing with their currency. The U.S. government knows hundreds of billions dollars worth of IP is stolen by Chinese hackers. The U.S. sits by while China manipulates the price of rare earth metals forcing other countries to abandon operations, The U.S. government approves of U.S. companies moving operations to China... who then get access to U.S. manufacturing technologies (GE Xray for example).... I could go on. But the bitches running Washington see 1.3 billion new consumers and let China do what it wants.
