apparantly

Not sure how they plan to enforce this... Although I guess if paypal agrees to freeze chinese gold seller accounts it could work 😛

so maybe MMOs will become less trashy, until these guys move abroad at least ;o

The farmers will just move to another SE asian country. Philippine gold farms, here we come!

+1

China isn't doing this because of nerd rage over the issue. They are doing this because they have a growing population with MMO addicts some of whom are spending a lot of their money on these services. In essence they probably view it no better then gambling your earnings away. Not to mention that they have seen what MMO's are capable with what happened in Iran. People in Iran were using MMO's that were prohibited by the Iranian government to organize protests in the real world. Also taxing and regulating such services are problematic. In essence they are just continuing the trend of exerting more power in controlling what people cant and cannot do with their lives in China.

In other news, chinese economy expected to tank in the coming months.

That's what I was thinking. Why would anyone ban something that brings money into the economy? I could understand if it's something like selling meth or contract killing, but here we're talking about playing games for money. How is this law supposed to improve China?

in case no one's noticed the obvious... THEY'RE A COMMUNIST COUNTRY.

it's not about bettering china... or even bettering the basic chinese person's life. it's about maintaining control.
