Chimei 22" WS LCD

Okay, I need to upgrade for Xmas, only have 17" LCD, so if I get a new card it will be wasted unless I get something like this

Chimei 22" LCD

Now in NZ its $800 incl GST where as the Dell 2407 is $1500 Incl GST.

Can the Dell really be worth twice as much?

Honestly, I'd wait until Xmas is within the vicinity of three weeks to choose a monitor. A lot will change by then.

I have been thinking about buying this monitor as well. I have a 19" LCD but my girlfriend is using her laptop display now so I figured I'd give her my LCD and upgrade. I noticed that the Chimei has a bit more brightness and better contrast ratio then the other 22" LCD's that are out. I'll probably get one in the next few months. It's very affordable for the size and seems to have good reviews on NewEgg.

The reviews do look good!

You'll be choking on your saliva by the time the new backlights become affordable. So why not wait 'till then? 🙂

The Chi Mei is still a 6-bit LCD, so that means color reproduction will be shoddy at best. LCDs already aren't the best at displaying darker tones and when the 6-bit ones dither, that just makes the effect 2x worse because they have to show 2-3x the amount of colors to display one tone. It may be tempting but I guarantee there'll be something a lot more tempting by December.

You just can't trust user reviews a lot of the time. Wait'll THG, X-Bit Labs, or BeHardware dissect it and reserve judgment 'till then.

Pretty sure this is the same panel as in the Acer 22" Widescreen, which several uses on AT have (myself included). It's a good panel if you like bigger text than on a 17"/20" screen.

xtknight, thanks for the info mate, will take your advice and wait, you seem to know what your talking about.

Cheers

Pretty much all TN Film panels are 6-bit (which is about 80% of the market, and maybe 90% of the "gaming" market). There's some that look horrible, but there's many that are more than acceptable. You should test it out for yourself if possible.
