Went to Chili's yesterday for the first time. Didn't have the Awesome Onion though. Sounds and looks similar the Blooming Onion from Outback. I'm sure it tastes good though.

I've had that happen on two occaisions... once at an Outback... once at a mom & pop place.

Both times it was served with an apology and an offer of a different one.

Sometimes I guess they fall apart in the fryer....if you make the cuts a little too deep.

We accepted it both times... tasted no different.

Um, they messed up on that order...having worked there...I don't know why it looks like that.

I spent 3 years working at one and while on average they went out looking like the picture, if it was busy and the fry cook dropped an onion that split in the oil...the end result sometime put shame to even that Consumerist picture. I would seriously be ashamed to serve the damn things.

On a side note...check out the Nutritional Info on that badboy:

Hmm...weird. The area where I worked at was a "high end" area...needless to say they were pretty stingy on a lot of things. Everything had to look a certain way. Although I wouldn't say there were a ton of things ordered during my time though.

As long as it tastes the same, I don't really care how my food looks like (well, to a reasonable extent...). I mean after it goes into my mouth, it's going to get chewed into some mushy mess anyway regardless of whether a world class chef prepared a work of art for me or I got an onion that died in the fryer.

I second that! Logan's Roadhouse "onion petals" are great.

I just feel VERY weird sweeping my pile of peanuts off the table to the floor. Every time, almost instinctively, i look around and make sure no one is watching before i do it! :p
