I make mine with pinto beans and elk meat.

Chili without beans is not Chili - it is sauce.

I like chugwater chili with some chili peppers added to make it hotter.

Original "real" Texas chili does not have beans - no way, no how. Most, if not probably all, competitions will not allow beans in one chili.

I use 2 parts beef chuck and 1 part pork, bunch of peppers, onions, and spices with no beans in sight.

Now with all that being said, I typically don't mind beans in my chili but I just won't cook it that way.

it's not a war. texans will generally advocate no beans, the rest of the country uses beans.

My basic recipe is 3 cans of chili hot beans, and another three cans of beans(regular kidney, pinto, or black beans) , You need some fresh tomatoes or use canned diced/rotel. A large diced onion, a can of tomato paste, a package of meat(ground beef, turkey, bison, lamb), and lots of spices, usually varied from pot to put, but usually cumin and cayenne for sure, some bay leaves in a tea ball, celery salt, fresh garlic, whatever else sounds fun.

also diced green peppers, habaneros, jalapenos and poblanos can be good.

Chili can be made with or without beans. Texas chili, for example, should be made without beans and, for the most part, without vegetables, being basically small pieces of red meat in a spicy sauce, whereas regular chili con carne contains at a minimum meat, beans, and a base including chili peppers, and usually includes vegetables such as tomatoes, onion, and bell pepper.

I like it both ways .... over rice with black or red beans & straight-up on dogs or burgers.

Beans are filler, they were added to stretch out the recipe. They should be replaced with more meat. If you want flavorless fiber clogging up your chili you might as well just mix in some shredded cardboard.

I like the color, i add them in diced up. If its not chili, i don't mind at all. It tastes good to me ::shrugs::

Then again, some people don't like their chili with hot peppers. To me, if it doesn't have hot peppers, it ain't chili either.

Bell peppers in chili are fine. Using sweet ingredients like bell pepper, brown sugar or molasses balances the hotter peppers. By using more sweet you can use more hot without making it too painful to eat. That gives you a greater depth of flavors.

I'm not a fan of beans, but if I had to choose, then chick peas.
