Let's hope the damage isn't severe.

An earthquake of 8.0 magnitude has struck off Chile's coast near Iquique, triggering a tsunami warning for all of Latin America's Pacific coast, the US Geological Survey says.
It said the quake was very shallow, only 10km below the seabed, which would have made it feel stronger.
It was centred 86km (56 miles) north-west of the mining area of Iquique.
The USGS said a quake of this force had the power to generate a "destructive tsunami" for coastlines.

Chile actually has buildings that can withstand earthquakes due to building codes and better construction, unlike Haiti.

The earth has gotten way too crowded. It's time that mother earth thinned out the herd. It's going to happen. We are going to have a major catastrophe some day.

Not sure if you realize this, but by the time you posted this, any harm would have already been done.

I heard it on the news that they were evacuating... And they said the Tsunami would hit sometime in the morning.

Sorry, blame the reporting though. The earthquake was only a few 10's of miles off shore. Tsunami waves move very fast through the deep sea (but slow down when they hit shallower water, hence the amplitude of the wave builds up). I don't think it would have been more than 2 hours before the threat in their country was over.

they cancelled the tsunami warning pretty shortly afterwards, though people were told to move to higher grounds.

the main danger would be to people on the other side of the ocean, but the US and some other tsunami warning agency cancelled those as well for the NA west coast. quake was probably a sideways stike slip rather than a downward thrust.
