After a bit of patrician 3 playing, I was thinking about moving from a trading sim to a city builder. Ceasar 4 was nice, but the play area way too small so thought I'd look at COTN demo again this time from the enhanced edition.

Thinking after doing most of the first tutorial that this is another title suffering badly from graphics instead of substance. Sure the individual items all rendered in 3d may look so cool, but it runs way too clunky, and again the viewable play space is cut down to minimize impact on the system from the graphics. Maybe I'll just load up the old pharaoh and enjoy some nicely down 2d play.

I've been craving some games like this lately as well. After playing dungeon keeper 2 and evil genius I just want to play a nice city builder.

I re-installed stronghold crusader but uninstalled it after playing it for about 5 seconds after deciding that I didn't want to learn how to play it again.

Was thinking about re-installing the original black&white but I don't think I can put up with the cheesiness of the music.

Maybe rollercoaster tycoon 3 with expansions again... micro-managing workers get's so annoying though.

I just can't decide and am bored. I havn't seen anything new in this sort of genre that has peaked my interest in a long time.

EDIT: lol, I just realized that I allready own children of the nile. I forgot. :D

Good game. I'd check it out if I where you. I'm re-installing it now.

Doing some reorganizing yesterday and came across my pharaoh/cleo disc. Played through the first and most of the second mission period. Even with game rez limited to 1024*, it looks much better to my the CoTN.

It wasn't very well optimized, but it was a decent game. It only got 2 or 3 patches total.

The closest things to a recent city builder game out is Grand Ages: Rome. Cities XL is due out fairly soon, I think, though.

Ceasar 4 suffered from 3Ditis. I never had any problems running the game, but the playable world was remarkedly reduced to ease the graphic strain on low end systems with the increased video power needed.

CoTN suffers from the same (sid's Railroad game being one of the most glaring examples), but unlike Ceasar 4 where the increase power needed for all the 3D graphics is a noticeable improvement (for graphics, not necassarily gameplay) they seem to have caused a graphic and gameplay regression in CoTN.

I think the base + expansion is like $25 at steam, I'll probably pick it up once it hits the $10 range at a sale.
