If you haven't already, I suggest you read the book first; IMHO it's one of Clarke's better ones.

I haven't read a book since college. I keep thinking about starting to read but never do

I finally watched the first episode tonight. Not bad...IMO, they jumped around and forward a bit too much to keep it understandable...but still...not bad.

It's been at least 30 years since I read the ACC novel...maybe more than 40 years. I'd forgotten a LOT of it...time to find a copy in a used bookstore some place.

Just finished it and I was highly impressed for a syfy channel show. I haven't read the book so I can't compare them but now I kind of want to read it.

Saw part of the first episode.. like it enough to record a repeat. Ended up recording all three parts, finishing the last part now. It's actually pretty good.

I think it was filmed in Australia from the cast. Don't recognize the cityscapes.

Weird. Isn't that the same actor who starred in Under the Dome?

That's just ... unfortunate.

I put this in the SyFi thread, but I'll put it here.

I really enjoyed Childhood Ends. The intertwining with religion etc was interesting and I really didn't know what the outcome was going to be. I assumed knowing about ACC's other stories, these were not going to be evil aliens, but they did a good job of keeping you guessing. What I don't understand is in the WHOLE thing no one asked him - why do you look exactly like our demons?

Also -
I was confused. What started the evolution of the children? Did the overlords do that or was it just going to happen anyway via the other 'overwhateverthey were'? Was this explained better in the book? It just seemed like it happened really quick like something jump started it. I also get the impression they had been to Earth before - thus immaculate conception, prophets, Jesus (Jennifer - and the awakening??), demons, etc but they never really said that either..

From what I gathered, they explained it in part 2 briefly...

Something about the Overlords maybe probing everyone's minds. Other reason I could think of -- not sure if it was in the show -- was that they visited before in the past and created the idea of the Devil?

It was pretty interesting how this was partly based on the whole religion thing.
