because formating, unless you low-level with a SCSI drive, dos not destroy the information simply the FAT.

eraser doesn't work because of the size of sectors, so if a 1kb where in a sector that was set for 256kbs then the other 255kb that where kid porn can still be retrieved.

there are some programs that do better than others, but almost none do a good job of taking out the swap file from which massive amounts of information can be taken.

seems like a pretty fvsking good idea to me. Although with the following conditions I'm not sure why in god's name you would turn yourself in.

They would then be assessed by a psychiatrist and if, after appropriate treatment, were judged to be no risk to children, would be given a caution.

The men would still be placed on the sex offenders register, but would be spared the humiliation of a court appearance and a formal prosecution.

You don't have to visit child porn sites to have unintentionally viewed child porn on your computer and those files are at least temporarily in residence on your machine.

Given that half of all internet traffic is porn, that should add up to a lot of hard-drives. I hope they have a budget the size of the Pentagons.

If I was into this stuff I would kill my HD before sending it in. You can't retrive data from a hardrive that's been put in a fire and thrown in the garbage.

No, the reason people would go for this is to either benefit from the counselling, or because they are scared that the authorities are already tracking them.

Is it REAL children, like babies and under 12 and stuff where the kids probably don't know any better having sex with adults? This is just sick if this is the case.

OR is it like 17 year olds who had sex videos and stuff made and they are released and the people get charged with child porn? If you can't tell, then how do the police tell?

Any help with this clarification would be helpful. I'd look online, but I don't want to know if it's the first case...

Use a damn magnet to clean the drive and then turn it in, but I don't have any child porn so there isn't an issue. I don't think they'll do all that well because people know when and where the drive is so all they have to do is wait there and watch for people with computer HD.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I know this. 2 years ago, some ATOTer was charged with this stuff. The cops sat down with the guy, and looked at every single image with him, criticizing each one, asking how old do you think she is, etc. Apparently, there was no lawyer present, and the cops were using their scare/intimidation tactics.

Now I don't know if the guy was just bluffing, or was only telling part of the story. He most likely went to a website by accident, which was being watched.

Yeah, when you think about it, it's kinda messed up that if I was 18, and my GF was 17, I could have sex with her in any and every way possible, get her pregnant, marry her (provided she had her parent's consent), but if I took a picture of her even just topless, it would be a felony.

I'm not saying that this situation happened, but this just kinda strikes me as funny.
