Chieftech Case Ventilation (same case as SX1240)

i have the chieftech case that is the equivelant (sp?) to the antec sx1240. i have 2 panaflo L1A's going in the front and 2 out the back. i have an alpha pal 8045 on an athlon 1900+ with a ys tech 48cfm 80mm on it. will this ventilation be sufficient? or do i need a weaker fan on the HSF and stronger going out the back/in the front? thanks

athlon 1900+, iwill xp333, 7200 rpm drive (which, btw, is in one of the drive cages that has the 80mm fan rack built into it, so the inflow of air will be slight inhibited by this, also the ventilation slits in the front - which will be creating negative pressure if im correct), geforce3 ti200, 512mb DDR PC2700 w/ heatspreaders (maybe active heatspreaders), a lan card and SB live (maybe - i might use the built in 5.1 sound of the xp333 board)

Yeah, you should have more than enough cooling, how much do you plan to oc?

i want to try to get the ram to at least 350...is that possible? i want to get the cpu to at least 1.8gHz or around there, however the multiplier will get close enough. i want my geforce3ti 200 to get at least an extra 20mHz on the core and the ram. i put tin coated alloy ram sinks on the memory and a crystal orb on the GPU...sound good enough? if this starts pumping out too much heat, i might add in some more ys-tech 48cfm fans instead of panaflo 24cfm fans.

then, im going to go out on a limb and overclock my soundcard and internet. what do you guys think about 1.5terrabytes/sec on my 10/100 lan card? i think its possible

I don't know about the ram, got my cas2.5 pc2100 to run 306Mhz, so 350 for pc2700 should be possible.

I'm sorry to disappoint you about the cpu, but as the 1900+ already is in the high-end of the XPs you cannot expect to get as much out of it as the slower clocked ones (I got 280Mhz more out of my 1600+, 1680Mhz). The most probable oc with a 1900+ and air-cooling seem to be around 1700-1750, but even that isn't sure.

I got my cheapo ti200 to 240/530 with one stick of ram (512Mb) and 220/515 with two (1Gb) with stock cooling, so just go for it.

what does your ram have to do with overclocking the video card?


my temps at 1.6gHz are 38celcius idle and 42celcius under 100% load...is this ok? high? low? average?

I didn't know either, but some people in the Video-forum said that an oc'ed gfx-card places more stress on the northbrige. Seems to be true, as I could oc to 240/530 with one stick of ram and passive cooling on the northbridge, whereas I can only oc to 220/515 wuth two stick of ram and active cooling on the northbridge.

Your temps are higher than mine, my 1600+@ 1607Mhz (10.5x153) is 39C under load (Seti) at a case temp of 31C and 1,85 vcore, but I use a 46.5cfm Papst fan on my PAL8045. Your temps are about average I guess.
