Chieftec Case Question

I purchased this case from NewEgg last night for $77 shipped.

Chieftec Aluminum Tower Case

I have some questions for any of you who may have this particular (or similar) case.

I don't have onboard firewire on my mobo listed in my sig below. I currently use a 3 port PCI card. Will this front firewire port wire run through the case and out the back through an open expansion slot and plug right in to the back of my PCI firewire card? Or is it a bundle of single ended wires from the front port and I'll have to do some splicing to accomplish this task? And in case you're wondering, my PCI card doesn't have a 4th port with the bare male terminals on the side of the card like some do.

If the latter is the case, how many wires are in a firewire cable and what are the odds that the colors of the separate wires leading from this front mounted port will be closely matched to my current firewire cable? And finally, lets say I get a couple of wires mixed up in my splicing (if that's what I'll have to do), could that possibly fry the mobo and/or the PCI firewire card, or will it just not function until it's wired properly?

I've been building and upgrading my own computers via "do-it-yourself" since the Intel 486 days ('93?), but I've never done or had to do any splicing like what I'm suggesting above.

Thanks... :)

Doh!! After some quick searching in this forum (which I should have done first...I know  ) it looks like they're separate wires and not a normal firewire end.

So then, does anyone have expeirence in splicing this wire to a normal firwire cable to be able to plug it in to a PCI card.

Thanks!!

Bump...

In the hopes someone has this kind of case and has spliced the firewire lead ends coming from the front FW port on this (or similar) case, with a regular firewire cable to make use of the front FW port via cable to the back port of a 3 port PCI FW card.

I don't think it's really possible to splice into the rear which would be nice. You need to find a card with internal hookups.

Thanks for responding, and if nothing more than to bump this thread I'll explain it again, in case I'm not expressing myself clearly.

I don't mean splicing into a rear PCI port itself, but rather to splice the ends of the wire leading from the front access FW port on the case with a normal 4pin/6pin firewire cable, and then simply run it out the back of the case and plug it into the port with the normal socketed end of the cable that's been spliced together.

In my mind it seems workable, I'm just wondering if anyone here has done it. Judging from the lack of response, I guess not...
