I've been looking at ]THIS CASE

SPECS:
CHIEFTEC Server Chasis (Workstation Tower) Model DX-01WD-420W; AMD Approved Power Supply Front Accessible: 4 x 5.25", 2 x 3.5", Internal: 4 x 3.5". Power Supply:(P4) 420 watts Turbo Link 420 ATX 12V- w/2 Case Fan Compare to Antec SX1040 and Save Model#: DX-01WD-420W FAN -OEM FedEx Saver Shipping $15.00

Chieftec makes the cases for Antec, AFAIK and this is a 1040, except with a "Chieftec" power supply. It says it's "AMD-approved" but I don't see Chieftec listed on AMD's approved PS list.

What gives, or WHO makes Chieftec PS's?

The AMD list is not up todate, there`re lots of Enermax,Antec, PSU`s etc not on the list, but does not mean they are not AMD approved.

If you look at the pictures in the link you provided it is clear that the PSU is a "Turbolink Model CWT-420ATX". It also says it in the description you posted. However I did not see it on AMD's list, but that is rarely up to date.

Well, I'm an idiot. *CONFIRMED* Hahahahah! I didn't think to take note of that. Thanks, Workin'.

I'm sure this 420-watter will be fine for the 1GHz TBird it'll be juicing. Thanks.

I haven't looked, but I'm quite certain that you will find that PS in AMD's list under Channel Well Technologies. They also make a lot of the Antec power supplies. ;)
My Antec PP-303X is only AMD "approved" up to 900MHz! :Q

Edit: But if I find the equivalent HEC model in their list, it's all good!

D'oh!!! I just looked at the list and the Channel Well 420W isn't on there!

However, the Antec PP-412X is. If you haven't already done so, take a close look at the bottom of the Antec label in the provided link ;)

Michael,

This case sucks IMO. I have 3 and while it looks wonderful with the face on there are some problems. If like me, your clumbsy, it's really easy to break that door off and then it looks like crap with these large holes to look at every day.. You'll have to open the door to power on each time unless you mobo supports keyboard power on which is a pain and increases the likely hood of door breakage.. Also do you need so much space? I mean like 10 drives?

IMO-this case is much better and coomes with amd approved 350 watts ps..

All "AMD Approved" means is that the manufacturer sent that supply in and AMD found that it supplied the required amperage on the 5V and 3.3V rails for certain processor speeds. Many "AMD Approved" supplies are only approved up to a certain speed processor. There are many supplies out there that provide the required juice but were just not submitted to AMD. This doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with it or should be avoided.

And AMD approval doesn't address the quality of the components used, failure rates, etc.

While that list is a good place to start if you can't find out the specs of a specific powersupply you are interested in, the 'approved' list is highly overrated in my opinion.

I would leave the door off in that case if I was like you ;),I`ve the black Chieftec Dragon DA-01WD which has the power on button below the door, lots of

Chieftec cases to choose from here ,I just got my Chieftec case without PSU ,that way you can choose your own, this may work out more expensive but it does give you total freedom in choice.

Channel Well makes some, if not all, of Antec's powersupplies.

Actually, Chenming makes that case for Chieftec, Antec, Enermax, Alienware and whoever else has them! :)

Cheers!

There was a post in the past week or so with someone stating who makes the new TruPower supplies and it wasn't Channel Well. Can't remember who he said or if his info was accurate.

BTW, I'm heading down to the store right now to pick up a TruePower - my Enermax 431 is dying on me. :(

JMO and this (the 1030 and all variations) case is very popular so I expected some critisism but I still say the little plastic arm is very easily broken and not repairable. Your case does have the power button on th outside which seems preferable. Wishing Idda got that one.

I have the Chieftec with the door that covers everything (like the 1040). I got it specifically for that reason - it's my server and I did not want anything exposed. Hmmm, maybe that's why they call it a "server case"? The machine just sits in a corner and does its thing, no monitor, keyboard, or mouse attached. Just a sleek, black tower. I interact with it via Terminal Services or VNC. I bought mine with no PSU and got an Enermax 431 separately.

I would not buy this case for use as a workstation, the door would be a major pain, as Carbonyl said. You sure don't want to buy it and then have to remove the door (or worse, break it), the thing is butt ugly like that.
