I vote cool, up to a certain point (when they know more than me?)

Example 1: My girlfriend knows how to change her tire, but that's the limit. I change her oil, rotate her tires, air filters and stuff, but in an emergency, she knows how to switch out a flat. I think that's cool and probably pretty average for a girl.

Example 2: There is another friend of mine in my public relations society and she takes it to the next level. She changes her own oil. Yet while shes at our PR meetings and stuff, she is very feminine and ladylike. I think that's cool.

Example 3: My third example is an administrative assistant at work here. She is about 22 or so. I had to give her a ride home the other day because her old dodge caravan "broke down". I asked her what happened and she explained that the timing belt broke and it snapped the tensioner as well. She said she (herself) would be fixing both problems right after she replaced a couple if failing gaskets. She laughed about how her boyfriend didn't even know how to change the oil in the van. That intimidated me. She shouldn't know that much, she should be in the kitchen.

So, what do you think? Cool or intimidating?

wow, is your girlfriend strong? because i tighten them lugs REAL tight and you really have to throw your body weight in to unscrew them.. i def think its a plug that a girl knows

Compressors are your friend.

As are torque wrenches😉

Cant use the torque wrench to get the bolts off itll ruin the torque measure!

should be "chicks WHO," not "chicks which."

That being said, it's cool. It's not arousing or anything, but I'm certainly not intimidated. I know a little bit about cars and can do most small repairs myself, but I realize that I don't know everything, and that some people, females included, will know more than me.

What surprises me is when guys who act like they're big tough car guys don't even know how to change a tire or oil. These two kids at my college used to race their cars and always talked about adding turbos and NOS and souping them up, and they had no idea how to even change a tire.

What's with the which, Red? Are girls now objects? :| It should read: Chicks that (alternatively who) know how to fix cars = cool or intimidating?

Of course they are cool! Who would dispute that, besides misogynists or control freaks? :disgust: I just wish I kew how to do stuff like that, though. 🙁 One day I'll learn, I hope.

A chick that knows how to fix cars would only be intimidating if YOU didn't know how to fix cars IMO.

Sounds about right to me.

See, I disagree. I don't know how to fix cars and a chick who knows how to fix cars doesn't intimidate me in the slightest. In fact, I think its cool.

Last year my girl took her 2000 Sebring in for a diagnosis and was told that she needed a brand new transmission. A few days and $25 later, she replaced the tranny's engine speed sensor herself and fixed the problem completely. She was 21 at the time.

AND she still finds time to cook like nobody's business.

teh h0tness. :thumbsup::cookie:

Red, definately hot, I have yet to run into a woman who knows or has more experiance than me in the auto repair business 😉

Cool as hell. Now, you see a girl fixing her CBR 600 motorcycle in daisy dukes and a wife beater tank top, and she's marriage material.....I've seen this once, and I was amazed.

This thread has been luvlyized.

I still find it hard to believe that Courtney Hansen has been turning wrenches for long if at all. This chick is a model, I mean come on and get a clue.

Models can't turn wrenches? She's also the daughter of a race car driver so I'm sure she grew up around that kind of stuff. I don't find it so hard to believe.

I think it's pretty cool if a chick knows how to fix a car. Nothing wrong with expanding your horizons, especially when you're learning something that actually has practical application.
