Chicken sitting out for five hours...

I left some chicken to thaw on the kitchen counter, returned about 5 hours later, and cooked it with some rice. Is it safe to eat?

It's sitting in the refrigerator right now because I'm having second thoughts about eating it...I really don't want to "suffer the consequences" and punish my toilet and/or stomach.

Only if you're sure you cooked it to the full 180 degrees. Otherwise, you could be in trouble.

Probably fine. Unless you have a compromised immune system to begin with. Heat it to 180 degrees.

If you are going to eat something 'iffy', wouldn't you want to do it sooner rather than later?

I think it woule be fine, BTW :)

nuke it for a minute
you'll either irradiate anything that can harm you, or you'll give them radiation based super powers.

Either way -- you're good to go!

I thaw chicken and other meats on the counter all the time. I've yet to have a problem. If you cook it thoroughly, I highly doubt you have anything to worry about as long as it wasn't sitting out for hours after it thawed out.

Once it's most of the way thawed out, I put it in the fridge if I'm not going to be cooking it right away, just to be safe.

Yes it is, as long as it is cooked thourghly afterwards

Reheat it thoughly because of the rice in fact nuke it to about 200c then eat it...should be fine
