is there a place that will be able to hold 80 table tennis tables for a tournament and will not cost super expensive? I was thinking of mccormick place, but it's very expensive.

I imagine it would be. A ping-pong ball would go all over the place even in a slight breeze.

Look at the yellow pages for halls, like reception halls. Or like someone else said, school gyms might do the trick.

hmm are they really that big? 80 tables needs lots of room, including spectator seating.

Try a college.. Wheaton college has a few big gym areas that might not be in use much in the summer

The local indian people's society often does their events in Elgin High School.

They have a large cafeteria and gymnasium.

Try the Odeum in Villa Park (about 20 miles West of the Loop).

They do a lot of community events (Hamfests, flea markets, wood shows, little league hockey ....).

Maybe a spare hanger at O'Hare?

Good Luck

Scott

Elgin high school, though 80 tables would be streaching it in the gym. Seating for about 5k people. The cafeteria is pretty damn big too. I really need to go back there and see if the dent I put in the chalkboard in 090 is still there. It is amazing how you can scare the crap out of a lineman when you hurl a 90lb desk at them.

Bartlett High School is another good choice, and has a slightly bigger gym. It also has full backup generators so you don't need glow in the dark balls.

High schools, Community Centers, Community Colleges, Universities, etc. would do the trick I'd wager. Call around!
