Doesn't AT hate teachers? I specifically remember the thread on the Teachers' strike in Chicago.

When they refuse to recognize reality about what a budget is and how people can obtain raises when the government doesn't have the money to pay for them, causes one to question their value as teachers of our youth.

One big issue is all the arbitrary gang boundaries and trying to locate a school in as many areas so that children don't have to cross a boundary to get to school. Causes a lot more schools than otherwise are necessary.

It was always understood after the last contract talks wrapped up that extensive school closings/consolidations were inevitable because of pension obligations and the teacher's financial demands. There are a lot of schools where enrollment is below 50% due to population and demographic shifts. Continuing to operate these schools, many with extensive (multimillion dollar) needs for repair, is not justifiable.

Lewis is looking for political cover now while pretending she had nothing to do with it. It does seem like she's reaching out to make it personal with Rahm which is a mistake she'll live to regret I'm sure.

i'm going to guess these same districts are building sports palaces and are top heavy with administrators figuring out way to harass teachers

Indeed. I'd like to see the ratio in this school district (and in all school districts) of teachers to students versus administrators to students.

I know in the biggest local school district around here, they have a huge office with probably over a thousand staff that aren't in any way involved with actual schools. And I know my high school 10 years ago had almost as many administrators in the office as they did teachers.

All school districts are top-heavy and that's where the cleansing needs to be.

Also, teacher pay needs to be results based. Way too many washed-up, uncaring old teachers left in the system.

The teachers union is wrong in this case but at the same time good for them for going after that POS scumbag rahm. He needs to be called out by the people and kicked out of office

Chicago needs some stimulus. Can't they just spend more money to grow their economy?

I wouldn't take this story literally. The unions and mayor Chicago (well, Pols of Chicago) have very much a symbiotic relationship. They say the schools will be closed, but, it will be interesting to see if they really are (without new ones being built and/or existing augmented). It's a very much behind the curtain town...just because two people/groups are fighting in public doesn't mean they're not playing cards and having a beer behind that curtain the public doesn't get to see behind...

Wait... Really?

You guys locate schools depending on local gangs?

It's more of a hate of anyone who chooses a profession that helps other people, instead of one that is only self serving.
Teachers, nurses, firemen, police etc
Then of course, those people tend to gather together socially outside of their workplace.
This is viewed as unnatural

Can't speak for Chicago, but even where I grew up (which is one of the richest areas in the nation) it was quite common for the school board to shuffle zones around based on socio-economic status. After I graduated high school, I heard my neighborhood had been shifted to another high school so that the more well-off kids/families from my area might positively influence the school.

If gangs and gang boundaries were a serious problem, as they undoubtedly are in parts of Chicago, I could see it influencing school zones.

When the toilet flushes there will be a stampede for any standing room to be found on floating turds. Then the pushing and shoving and kicking the heads of would be boarders will start.

This one sailed way over my head.

Did it sail away on a turd?

Pretty simple really. He sees the world as a toilet bowl and humanity as pulling the flush handle slowly.

When the "bowl flushes" in other words, the world goes to hell in a hand basket, people will try to board ships made of feces and the ones aboard those ships will kick your head if you try to climb on board.

I wonder if he realizes this has been going on long before he was aware, or even born. People in power (however fleeting) have always tried to hold on to it, some by more nefarious means than others.
