Chicago residents: Need hotel advice for early January

Our 5th wedding anniversary is on Jan 6, and I'm looking to get a hotel for the weekend in Chicago. I'm thinking of Michigan Ave, so we can walk around the shops and go to the Shedd Aquarium. A good view of the skyline or Lake Michigan would be preferable.

Where would you recommend that we stay?

Pretty much anything you find online will be nice, and will be expensive. I've stayed in a few, but its been so long, my suggestions would be pointless.

Yeah, I could pick any one of them, but it would be nice to get recommendations. The view is what I really care about.

This winter, stay in the heart of chicago?s world-famous Michigan Avenue for under $100 per night. On select dates, the newly renovated chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile is offering an amazing $99 rate, a savings of nearly 70% OFF regular rates for this time of year.
The offer is valid on the following dates only, based on availability:

Dec. 11-16, 18-30
Jan. 1-20
Feb. 1-8
Book by Nov. 28:Book online at Marriott.com. Or call 1-800-228-9290 and ask for the chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. You must request rate code TZOF to get the special $99 rate.

Looks like the code of TZO still works to make it 99 a night.

"Breath taking views"

Anyone else? Anyone that's actually stayed in one of these hotels? The Marriott one is looking good, MMT, but that special ended Nov 28th. Price really isn't an issue with this one, though, but I don't mind saving some cash.

i was just at Hotel Monaco... it was pretty nice...

nice amenities:
tiger print terry cloth towel for your wife to lounge in,
very comfortable bed
very friendly service, big rooms and bath
a maid turned down my bed and night and left a giant candy on my pillow

i wasn't paying for the room, but I think their 'normal' rate is 200/night.... so you ought to be able to pay about half that on a weekend/off season.

The W hotel is a nice hotel too. Get a room on the east side and you can see the lake, hmm although it may be frozen and have a layer of snow on it. 🙂

No way. Don't stay at the W. It's a converted best western.

Thanks, I definitely check them out.

I checked yesterday and put TZO in and the $99.00 still came up for me.
