I've lived in IL (woodridge to be exact) for a few months now and have yet to find a REALLY good sub shop. They have Jimmy Johns and Pot Bellys but im looking for that small chain knock your socks off sub shop. Can anyone from Chicago/IL help me here? And yes at this point im willing to go to the city to get it 🙂

haha sorry, just have a hankering for a really good sub!!! The fields thread and the sandwich thread is at fault!

Fontano's is a great place for real italian subs. They don't have all the fancy sandwiches like Jimmy John's, Subway, or Quizno's, but its great quality and deli fresh.

There are a few around the city. The one I go to is on Jackson, inbetween State and Wabash. It is right across from DePaul University (my school 🙂 )

Try Planet Sub at 734 W. Fullerton, though I can't promise that it is open for business yet.

Best sandwiches, ever.

Planet Sub is a chain. The original store is called Yello Sub and is in Lawrence, KS about 30 miles from here. They are damn tasty!

Yeah, Fontano's is a good sub chain that I know is out in the suburbs.

The best subs I've ever had were from Captain Nemo's

They have 4 locations.

My personal favorites are the High Flyer and South Sea.
Their soup is really really good too.

I work in Mt Prospect and drive all the way out to Buffalo Grove to pick up lunch from there sometimes.

I did my BS at KU, and living in Lawrence for 4 years resulted in inordinate Yello Sub consumption. Fortunately Planet Sub stays true to the recipe.

Wonder if they have a wikipedia entry.

Amici's grocery on 63rd and Fairview makes a pretty decent sub for under $4. Just go back to the deli counter and have them make you one. 😉

Funny, I didn't like the one I went to all that much.
