According to Mr. Winfrey, I mean Stedman Graham, Chicago DOES NOT appreciate his wife. He recently gave an interview where he is quoted as saying:

"I don’t think they understand the value of who she is as a human being and what she’s done”

“Because a prophet has no honor in its home town.” - Remember this ... Oprah is now classsified as a prophet!

“From an insider’s point of view, I don’t think she gets the just due based on who she really is and what’s she done for the Chicagoland area.”

“I really don’t think she’s that appreciated. I think they take her for granted a lot. It's natural for people to take it for granted until you leave."

Ugh, Oprah. Don't get me started on her. I'd like to THINK that she's well-intentioned...

Shame on Oregon, then too.

I don't care what she's done, it's all been for publicity and profit. I really can't stand that woman.

You'd think, with the millions of dollars Oprah has been given to stay on the air in Chicago, that she would have done SOMETHING for the CITY of Chicago.
I love Chicago. To me, it is the First City. Your sports teams can go kiss my ass though.

yeah, I feel the same way. I think she does do a lot of good all over the place....but it all has an extremely self-serving flavor to it. :\

Maybe she'd get more respect (well, from men) if she weren't such a blatant media whore?

What's to appreciate? A show, a magazine, and a bunch of charity to 3rd world bullshit... none of which help Chicago (or this country for that matter). I'm sure she's helped some local stuff, but not the extent she could to be more 'appreciated' than any other millionaire who's done stuff there.

my friends in Chicago tell me Oprah put her studio in the ghetto to keep the property value low. That it's surrounded in barbed wire fences, and that if you go there without a ticket to the show, they will treat you like shit and call the cops if you don't eff off.

Stedman, is not her husband. He is just a pawn in the image she created of herself.

Putting it in the ghetto saves money obviously, but not sure why she cares since she's filthy rich.

Because it's in the ghetto, you NEED barbed wire fence. It's the freaking ghetto, a festering cesspool of society's worst.

Lastly, are you surprised that the cops get called with folks trespass?

I could be wrong here, but based on the businesses located nearby (museum, tanning, gallery, restaurants, Starbucks), I don't think it's the ghetto.

Ok, I'm impressed.

In 1998, Winfrey began Oprah's Angel Network, a charity aimed at encouraging people around the world to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged others. Accordingly, Oprah's Angel Network supports charitable projects and provides grants to nonprofit organizations around the world that share this vision. To date, Oprah's Angel Network has raised more than $51,000,000 ($1 million of which was donated by Jon Bon Jovi). Winfrey personally covers all administrative costs associated with the charity, so 100% of all funds raised go to charity programs.[130]
Although Winfrey's show is known for raising money through her public charity and the cars and gifts she gives away on TV are often donated by corporations in exchange for publicity, behind the scenes Winfrey personally donates more of her own money to charity than any other show-business celebrity in America. In 2005 she became the first black person listed by Business Week as one of America's top 50 most generous philanthropists, having given an estimated $303 million.[131] Winfrey was the 32nd most philanthropic. She has also been repeatedly ranked as the most philanthropic celebrity[132]
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Oprah asked her viewers to open their hearts—and they did. As of September 2006, donations to the Oprah Angel Network Katrina registry total more than $11 million. Homes have been built in four states—Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama—before the one year anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.[133] Winfrey also matched her viewers' donations by personally giving $10 million to the cause.[134]
Winfrey has also helped 250 African-American men continue or complete their education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.[135]
Winfrey was the recipient of the first Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2002 Emmy Awards for services to television and film.
To celebrate two decades on national TV, and to thank her employees for their hard work, Winfrey took her staff and their families (1065 people in total) on vacation to Hawaii in the summer of 2006.[136]

Your friends are bare faced liars. That area of Chicago is hardly a ghetto... Gary, Indiana is right next to Chicago if you want to know what a real shit hole looks like. And the ticket thing... uh, duh? If you don't have a ticket to the show you can't get in, so have no business there. If you don't go away you are trespassing and they can do what they have to in order to you get your ass moving. It's the same way anywhere that requires tickets.
