So who's watching? The pitching matchups are:

Bronson Arroyo vs. Greg Maddux
-Ownage by the Cubs, a 14-8 beatdown! Cubs win! Cubs win!

I'll be watching the Sox (hopefully) taking it to the Cubs. I live in an area surrounded by Cubs fans so I usually root for them. It'd make my life easier by far if the BoSox win 2.

I don't understand the big deal about this weekends series (yes, I'm from Chicago and know the history of the two teams). It's just 3 more games in the middle of a 162 game season. They aren't interdivisional rivals. They don't have a "natural" rivalry. Neither team is in first. You can't even bring in the "loveable losers" aspect of the argument anymore since the Sox won last year. So why all the interest?

Well since the Sox own the Yanks and the rivalry is fizzling, the media is trying to create another rivalry

It's not just the media creating the rivalry. Most Cub fans that I know were going overboard with excitement the day the schedule came out - long before the media could hype it up.

OMG - We get to see the Red Sox play!!11!!

If it's that big of a deal, suck it up and go watch them play 6-9 times a year in Comiskey.

The biggest the hype is in Chicago for having the Red Sox in town, is the possibility of buying all the tickets you can for the series then selling them for big profits on eBay...

Other than that, there isn't really any excitement in the air. For me, I see this as a way for Fox & ESPN to just do non-stop sensationalizing of the curse of the bambino and the curse of the billy goat. Sickening. Can't wait until the Cubs sweep and the weekend is over with. Then we can focus on the important Cardinal games where we really need to kick some red-bird butts.

Do you live in Chicago? 'Cause most of the people I talk to that are baseball (Cub) fans are eagerly anticipating this series. I also tried to buy tickets just to resell them on ebay. Someone is paying the obscene amounts of money for these tickets. That goes back to my original question of why is this series such a draw?

Live in a far suburb. And well, there is a varying range of Cubs fans out there - from those who follow sports intensely, to those who just love to party and get drunk at Wrigley...

But this weekend is kinda like a side attraction without any big draw. Three years ago when the Yankees were in town, we had that Wood / Clemens matchup. This time around, what is there? We're not going to be facing Clement. Nomar is injured, and really, before he got injured, he was batting well below the Mendoza line. And I don't quite think Todd Walker & Bill Meuller are on a rampage seeking revenge against their former teams...

So what have the rest of us to look forward to if the mere sight of the Red Sox logo doesn't get the blood boiling? I'll have Fox announcers on Saturday and ESPN announcers on Sunday (though it would be so cool if Steve Stone did the Sunday game). I'm just praying they don't turn this weekend into a huge Bambino / billy goat broadcast.

The real series to get pumped up for are against the White Sox, Cardinals, and Astros.
