didn't see anything on this but this is disturbing.

A Chicago police officer has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, who was killed in a volley of 16 shots on the city’s South Side last October.

The officer, Jason Van ***, turned himself into authorities on Tuesday morning.

It is believed that the charges mark the first time in Chicago history that a police officer has been charged with murder for an on-duty shooting. Later on Tuesday during a bond hearing, a judge denied Van *** bond and asked that the officer return to court on Monday for reconsideration. The judge also asked that prosecutors come to court on Monday with the dashcam video of the shooting, as it will be a factor in the hearing.

So why do you find it disturbing?

I saw part of the news conference. It was pretty clear that the dash cam video was going to support the actions of the officer. At least that's the impression I got. With both the Police Chief and Rahm Emanuel trying to head off demonstrations or worse, like I said, it appears the video issn't going to go over very well.

The cop has been charged with first degree murder so what, other than a video that tears that charge apart would cause demonstrations or rioting?

Just saw the footage... Looks pretty bad for the cop. Guy was probably 20ft away when the cop started blasting him. Family was already paid off with millions before a suit was even filed. Not sounding good.

Well if you don't mind police firing multiple bullets into a human being as if it was the only method or solution to disarm or diffuse the situation then I don't know what to tell you.

Plus the fact it took over a year to release this video only after a judge ordered it released.

The video is just disturbing to watch.

Well, no sense discussing it with you then. Your emotions are in control.

I will only add that at this time, I have not seen the video.

You must have been watching a different press conference than I was. It was pretty clear the video was going to be a huge negative which they felt would enrage the citizens when it shows how this kid was murdered. They kept saying this cop isn't the CPD. And now having seen it that's the only way to describe it.

I just read that 13 of the 16 shots were after the kid was on the ground. Now I understand why there would be demonstrations and perhaps rioting. That's so far over the top that there are no words for it. At least I don't have any words. But on the other hand, I also understand the desire to not release the video.

I won't be watching the video. I don't need to see it and I don't wish to see it. Shooting a person while that person is on the ground is vengeance not police work.

I said I saw a part of it. The Police Chief was already talking and shortly afterwards Rahm started talking. I moved onto something else after Rahm got started. My interpretation was my interpretation and I have discounted it after getting some more information.

The video I saw cut off after the first few shots. You should see it to get an idea of the distance the cop was at. The teen was no where close to him. You can look at the lines in the road to get an idea. Looked to be 20 feet away or more. Teen just looked at the cop and was blasted. No lunge or anything.

1st degree murder seems strange, but it may have to do with blasting him while he is on the ground. 1st degree is a high bar to prove, so hopefully they can have other charges they could defer to.

I think the officer will walk on the 1st degree charge.. the guy had a knife.. a jury might convict on 2nd degree though.

And this shooting is nowhere as bad as the police strangling a guy over cigarettes in NY or the one in SC where he shot him in the back running away and planted a gun.

I'll won't be holding my breath to see if the cop actually gets convicted of murder.

This is Chicago, where 97% of complaints about cop abuse are ignored/dismissed.

Wonder if this cop had any "dismissed" complaints.

Some here would think otherwise
I've already seen them elsewhere. And I gotta know, how the fuck does anyone manage to call themselves a "small government conservative" while defending such actions by government officials?

5 Cops deleted 86 minutes of footage from a nearby Burger King that might have had footage leading up to the shooting (not the actual shooting).

http://www.nbcchicago.com/investigat...305105631.html

After the shooting, according to Jay Darshane, the District Manager for Burger King, four to five police officers wearing blue and white shirts entered the restaurant and asked to view the video and were given the password to the equipment. Three hours later they left, he said.
The next day, when an investigator from the Independent Police Review Authority asked to view the security footage, it was discovered that the 86 minutes of video was missing.

In a statement, a spokesman for the IPRA said: "We have no credible evidence at this time that would cause us to believe CPD purged or erased any surveillance video."
Huh?...No credible evidence?!

With that video, I'm surprised the city wasn't burned to the ground. Ferguson was torched over zero video and no fault by the cop.

The really fucked up part is it took them a year to lay these charges. They come as soon as the department is ordered, pursuant to a FIA request, to release the video....
