Might be going to Chicago soon to see a band play and am really excited about it. I managed to make the same trip last year and had an absolute blast and I'm looking to do the same thing only a bit differently. The concert is on a Friday night and I want to take on the Chicago nightlife on Saturday if I can make it work. I'm looking for a basic hotel/motel somewhat close to the North Side to see if I can afford to stay there.

There is a catch though, I'm not taking my car. That restricts me to walking distance of the L trains, either Red (preferred) or Blue lines. I'm also seeing that the Nightowl 77 and 22 routes are options.

Any ideas?

Stay at one of the Longman & Eagle room (across the street from the Logan Square blue line stop), eat there, drink lots of great whiskey/bourbon, go forth and conquer. Chicago isn't that expensive of a town especially if you're not in the Loop.

There is no way to know unless you tell us your budget.

Basically I'm looking to see if there is a hotel nearby for $250-350 total for two nights. Days Inn, Drury Inn, Super 8, even a Motel 6 or a Red Roof Inn.

I went with location first because an affordable place 30 miles away won't do me any good without a car.

There are many, many place you could find in Chicago at that price. You don't need to stay right by the venue as you can take the CTA trains to downtown and transfer to the Red, Blue, or Brown line depending on where you are going.

$250-350 for just the hotel? You'll be fine. If you're throwing in drinks and all the rest, it will be a bit tight. Depends on how much you drink and want to pay covers, of course.

Not taking a car into a major city isn't really 'a catch', it's an advantage. Chicago's mass transit was pretty damn good in the two weeks I spent there.
