Chicago Bears sign Brian Urlacher to a 9 year deal

Wow! Very impressive on Brian's part. How often does rookie of the year, 3 year pro bowler (out of 3 years possible) for any sport stay with his team for his entire career. Its amazing how some players are not greedy bastards.

Yeah, good to see some players still play for reasons other then just the money. He is certainly being rewarded nicely though for staying. My brother was telling me about the deal the other night and the terms he was mentioning were unbelievable.

yeah, he did sign for a lot of money.. but imagine what contracts will be in 7 or 8 years.. obviously he coulda waited and tried to make more. Either way, he locked in a place with the bears. Now if they could only find a qb.

thats unbelievable to show that level of commitment to him. he's a special player, no doubt, and really fits into the bears historical persona. great move and I hope he is able to play it out to the end. kudos to him for committing to chicago like that too.

kordell stewart will be an upgrade atleast. now if we could only upgrade the offensive coordinator shoope.

Nine year deal but how many years and how much money is guaranteed? Still good to sign Urlacher to a long term deal.

Hell yeah!! Damn I needed something like this to cheer me up after that Sosa fiasco.

$58 million (incl. a $13m signing bonus and $5m roster bonus) over 9 years seems very reasonable. Lucrative, yes, but not heavy enough to cripple the team via the salary cap.

Now if they could only find a qb.
What, Sexy Rexy doesn't do it for you? 😉

most NFL contracts are for 3-4 year MAX. The Nine year part is only so they can PRORATE that $13 million dollar signing bonus out for nine years. He will be cut or restructure in 4 years just you watch😉

It's a nice thought to think of Urlacher spending his entire career with the Bears...but in reality how often does this happen? Look at Junior Seau...he thought he would retire a Charger, but he was traded to Miami. Such is life in the NFL. Players' contracts often don't mean squat in this day and age of the salary cap. If a team doesn't want to honor a contract they won't...they simply ask the player to renegotiate or they just cut him.

Well it'd be stupid for the bears to trade him. He is there #1 big name player right now, and hes continuing to play very well. Without him, defense lacks.

Good for Brian....he deserves it...he's a fvcking monster, he'll end up being another Bears great like a Ditka or a Butkus

No kidding hes a monster. I didn't think he was that big watching him play. Then i saw him on tv in an interview and hes ENOURMOUS with muscle.
