As a few of you may know i moved to chicago recently and since i've been here i wake up every hour with a really dry mouth. I am from Florida were the humidity in the air is higher but im trying to figure out if that is what it is. Do you think a cool mist humidifer would do the trick? I just want a good night sleep again.

in colder temps the humidity drops lower as all the moisture in the air freezes

Welcome to the midwest.

So dry in the winter your skin cracks. So humid in the summer your glasses fog up after walking out from air conditioning.

But the summer shouldn't be bad for you coming from FL.

Just put a humidifier in your home, carry some chapstick, and use a little lotion after showering or washing your hands in the winter.

It is very dry here right now, epecially with the heat going all the time.

A humidifier will help.

I know theres humidity here but im guessing that being its frozen not really breathable? I lived in South Florida where it was normal to have 90% humidity

so do you northerners have humidifiers or do you just get used to it year in and year out? Again this is all new to me

I didn't really have a need for one until I moved into an apartment complex, where the air is usually drier as a rule of thumb. So I guess you get used to it year in and year out? Never really put much thought into it . . .

Most people have humidifers built into their furnaces.

I basically run a warm mist humidifier nonstop in the winter to keep my house in the comfort zone. Every year or two I get a new one, and the mineral deposits have to be cleaned out often to keep the thing going. They also keep the air a little warmer, so your furnace doesn't run as often - at least in my experience.

A lot of people around here either put up with it, or as was mentioned have one built in to the furnace. But I can't go without it. I will wake up with a clogged nose and irritated throat if I dont have one.

No humidifiers in my home or on my furnace. I could never get used to the heat of the summer or the humidity on August, but the winter I've never had problems. Cold dry air is my kind of air!

I wake up with a dry mouth and throat every morning, I just deal with it.
