But I thought skater shoes and cargo shorts were standard fare?I can't believe hardly anyone is wearing PPE, especially in press pics.

I'd swear safety glasses were mandatory, hardhats and safety shoes not. However this was 2005ish, maybe my memory is failing.I can't believe hardly anyone is wearing PPE, especially in press pics.

I took a college class that met in one of their classrooms, so I had to walk through the plant to get to the classroom. The area I had to walk through was final assembly. Not too many robots. IIRC they were building the STS.
It was quite a culture shock coming from a very dirty and loud parts producing plant.
LOL! That plant looks like a dungeon compared to those I have visited in Germany...Transparent Factory anyone?
We Americans are so second...third class.

I never knew they had mechanical engineers that are females, and decent looking.

It depends where you work. On a construction site, it's needed because nothing is automated and controls are all manual. As a result, you need to go all out on PPE. This is an enclosed work site that has some automation.

The plant is a techincal exercise in itself...with first class architecture to boot.
It might be a VW "halo" project but damn do we need more of those here to show the world we can still engineer something AND make it look good.
Oh please. I love German cars and I am very fond of my German co-workers (I work for a German company), but money spent on making a fancier plant does not automatically equal better products.
