Chevy Vega

Colt45

Lifer
Both are projects that have been rotting for quite a while.. any suggestions?

I was thinking the vega ('72 wagon) with a small block, and uh.. undecided on tranny. i've got a narrowed ford 9" for it somewhere too.

or.. MG-B ('69). the 'parts car' that has been sitting for the good one that we sold a long time back. it was running once apon a time, but i think i would smallblock this too ;-)

both are a hell of a lot of work. I'd like to find a '55 - '57 bel-air, but thats probably not going to happen.

whatcha guys think.

Forget the Vega, get a Chevy Monza. They came with V8's so they are already setup.

I have a 75 factory V8 Monza with a 4 speed saginaw.

Oh boy, the nasty 305 130 hp 4 speed monza!!!!!!!!!!!

Monza = Vega. Just like Monza = Astre, Sunbird, Skyhawk, Starfire, etc.

A V8 H-body is great for straightline acceleration. But for better handling (SBC weighs nearly 600lbs) get the turbo buick V6 and drop it in. Or if you really want something different: Buick 215 aluminum V8. Or just build a normally aspirated V6 and make plenty of power while having good rear/front weight ratios.

Lots of options here.

I dont know, but a buddy of mine has introduced me into the world of the 500 caddy. If I ever build a non international truck or car, I will caddify it.

Monza and Vega are based on the same platform, BUT if you knew what you were talking about you would know the suspension on the Monza is more heavy duty. Even the differential of the Monza is stronger then the Vega.
Then you can get Spindles and axles from a 2wd S10 and upgrade the brakes, suspension, and lug pattern/number.
And if you are worried about weight you can lots of things to get the Small block within a couple hundred pounds of the Buick motor. The Buick motor was no light weight compared to the small block.
So again, don?t speak when you have very little knowledge of what you speak of.

I had a friend with a Vega wagon and a built 350. He could smoke the tires just by flooring it while already doing 55 on the freeway. :Q

And, yes, he did tub the rear and put big ole meats on the back. It was a really sweet ride.

I'm gonna throw my vote in for the B, you could do a Buick 265 CI (I think it's a 265) swap and as long as you completely got rid of ALL british/Lucas wiring it may actually be something that could be driven on a daily basis and would be fun as well

Well, that's what i'm doing to my 78 B. Rover 215. Ford T-5. Ford 8" rear end. Coil overs on all 4, 4 piston, vented brakes on all 4. Kind of crazy that i'll be tripling the power, getting better mpg's and end up loosing around 50lbs

But a 69 is a nice classic car. I'd just stroke the 4 that's in it, maybe add FI, or even a turbo. If you're dead set on a v8, many say the conversion is easier if you change the front cross member to one from a RBB (rubber bumper B)

I think I'm going to do the Vega for now. I'm going to have to source some fenders though, and perhaps qtr panels..
