speaking of Chevy, i saw the new cavalier last night. One word, fugly. They stretched out the back lights so now it is one continous light, like the Catera. There is an extremely long silver bowtie logo spanning the trunk lid. It looks goofy since it is about 4 inches high and 2 1/2 feet wide.

I noticed a comment on a V6 honda designed engine in the Saturn SUV for 2003, pretty sad that GM can't come up with a decent V6...

Umm, the Saturn VUE use a V6 from the Saturn LS sedan. That V6 has been around for a while and I think comes from one of GM's Opel models

What link?

The V6 in the VUE is the same one in the Saturn mid-sized sedan. The sedan has been out for about 4 years & no where does Honda fit into that equation AFAIK.

Ahhhhhh, interesting. I was reading your comment as if you were talking about the current VUE which uses a corporate GM V6. But you are right. I saw this at The Car Connection:

In separate powertrain news, GM revealed plans to reduce the number of gasoline engine ?families? it produces worldwide from 27 to 13 over the next few years, while diesel families will be trimmed from seven to four. Transmissions will see a more modest cut, going from 19 families to 16. Powertrain chief Tom Stephens noted that GM will continue seeking partnerships with competitors, such as an ongoing arrangement with Honda. Currently, the Japanese maker is purchasing some of GM?s diesels, while preparing to supply the U.S. automakers with V-6s that will be used in upcoming Saturn models. ?We?re going to continue making relationships,? Stephens said, though he also noted that, ?I wouldn?t say we have anything else (in the works) with Honda.? ?Paul Eisenstein

The reason GM did this is they traded Truck motors for these motors. So GM had to stick them into something and GM wants people to see Saturn as a DIFFERENT kinda car company. So they could not just put them into a Chevy or something.

Best of both worlds for both GM and Honda. Honda gets a engine for their non-us trucks, and GM gets a engine that is different from their others to try and make saturn look more different.

Hmm, I read the article and I was dumbfounded. The 3800 V6 engines GM makes for the Grand Prix et al are pretty good IMHO. I remember reading somewhere (long ago) that GM was going to stop making 4-cylinder engines and outsource them from Honda. That would make a lot more sense--American 4-cyl engines suck!
